After a dripping bridge left an unsightly stain on the Narrowboat, Lumpy demonstrates his previous paint rectification skills, by removing the 'burnt in' stain with a combination of Wet & Dry flatting paper and T-Cut. It's only a minor repair of the narrowboat paintwork but many people are scared to use flatting paper on their glossy paintwork but Lumpy shows how to carefully use it to remove stubborn defects and then bring the gloss level back to where it should be.

'Wow Nano Sponge' We live in Thailand, so these sponges, may not be available in UK. They feel like a fairly dense sponge, and are great for their purpose of cleaning dishes, but in fact they are the equivalent of a 3000 grit paper. I tried it on a small patch of paintwork, and it did indeed take off the top layer. The benefit of this type of sponge, is that you can get the sponge as wet or dry as you like. Thanks for the video and 'natter', look forward to the next one. Stay safe during your lockdown !

I believe the ones that hang off the ceiling are stalactites - I remember once being told its because tights should come down... ;)

@@NarrowboatNatterings hahaha! I aim to please! Plus I think the stalagmites are on the the floor as 'mites' need to be stepped over... But funnily enough it's the bit about tights that always sticks in my mind most!

35 years In the car repair trade we used to use Farecla G3 then finer cutting polish, bird sxxt was a bad one, modern two pack not much touches it. Regards Kevin

I'm trying to remember what we used as the cutting polish. It was white and very liquid. I worked in the rectification area at LDV vans so all our repairs were minor as they were brand new vehicles straight off the production line. Most of the time it was dirt nibs or craters or perhaps where a spray hose had made contact with the wet paint. Our superfine 1500 grade were like little daisy discs that were about the size of a 2p coin.

@@NarrowboatNatterings And back in the day you did not want to make the surface too smooth or it would show up against the factory orange peel finish, had a lady complain because the new wing fitted to her Maestro was TOO shiny LOL

@@beekeeperkev haha! Good yeah! I remember those issues! I also remember our polishes were also Faracle products I believe.

Hi guys... that was very interesting mate... appreciate the tip... I have used grinding paste before as used to resurface car engine valves by hand back in those days... using first brass polish and then silver polish can also bring back a shine as they are both abrasive products... thanks for sharing... take care and keep safe... until the next one...

Never tried the grinding paste idea but yes it's the same principle. Thanks again for watching and commenting. Always appreciated.

Just go steady. Keep it as light as possible. Go as fine as you can get away with. Then polish the gloss level back.

Yet another fantastic video, well done and thanks. This was absolutely informative, and of course educational. I expect where paint has lost some of its pigmentation then a repaint will be necessary?

Generally yes but sometimes you can bring a little more depth of colour back by a gentle Tcut. A little clear lacquer coat over a dull area may buy you a little time too, but it's only temporary.
