27 November 2019 - Day 97 - Perito Moreno Glacier | 346
Today we go on a trek to one of Patagonia most famous destinations - Perito Moreno Glacier!! A full day 12hr day out we booked the BIG ICE tour which is a whole 3hours on the glacier! ❄️⛏
We get picked up at 7am and head 78km west towards the glacier. We enter Parque Nacional Los Glaciares which is the third largest ice field in the world behind Antartica and Greenland! 🌎 We spend an hour on at the catwalk viewpoint displaying panoramic views of the cliff face of the glacier. You can see and listen to the sheer mass of the ice cracking crashing into the water!
We then catch a 20min boat ride across Brazo Rico to reach the glacier where we put on our helmets, harnesses and crampons and head further east along the south edge of the glacier. 🛥 We see blue lagoons and caves, deep cracks and crevices and huge sinkholes. It felt like you were in another world and in one of those Antartica documentary shows! At 254km2 this glacier is bigger than Buenos Aires city with the glaciers snout as tall as snout the obelisk in Buenos Aires at 67m!! It was unreal! 😱
If the Big Ice is a bit too steep at $400AUD (16,000p) for 3hours you can also do the Mini-trekking 1.5hrs for $225AUD. Whichever option highly recommended this activity to anyone travelling this part of the world! 🗺
