My sincere THANK YOU to the producers of this amazing and very educational video compilation of "Old West" Photos. All of my life I've been both fascinated, and haunted by the American settlers, Cowboys, Ranch Hands, Shop Owners, Black Smiths, Saloon proprietors, Bar Tenders, "Show Girls", Entertainers, Doctors, Prostitutes, Sheriffs, Deputies, Judges, US Army Cavalry, Native American Nations and Tribes, Barbers, and so many more. What is known as the "Old West Era" actually did not last a very long time. Approx. 50 to 60 years. Then came the electric Trolly Cars, the first Telephones, Motorized Trucks, The end of the beautiful, but dangerous and hard to control, Long Horned Steer, which was replaced by the much more docile, Short Horned Cow (Steer). All this and much more signaled the End of the "Old West", and the coming of modern times. However, short as the "Old West" era may have been it's impact on American History, and Culture, was immense and continues to fascinate, and cast a magic spell over every generation that has followed. There is no end to Old West Gun Slinger movies, or "Little House On The Prairie" type Novels, and movies. Throughout Europe there is a following of Millions of Old American West lovers! Forgive me for prattling on. But, once again my heartfelt Thanks to the producers of these wonderful video that give us a glimpse of that long ago rugged era, and the great variety of amazing Americans, and some non-Americans, that left all of us this unique and totally amazing historical legacy. Kudos to You all... BRAVO!

I liked the photo of the Homestead Act settlers. Specifically, the plus sized lady proving that not everyone was skinny. I'm sure she was a hard worker so it's not always about being lazy or eating fast food. Sometimes it's genetics too.

Homesteading is now called 'camping'. Been illegal to homestead since 1872. Act of Congress on February 21, 1872 declares "united states' to be a federal corporation (plantation) We are all sharecroppers on Uncle Sam's plantation, you have no right to the land, that fictional caricature owns every square inch. Nice perfect world.

Not every America today can claim having a ancestor who lived in the Western Frontier. My ancestors were homesteaders in KS, and proved up their claim. So I loved these photos Not many people today could have withstood the hardships of prairie life, but, mine did, and they were successful and I'm proud of them.

Kansas isn't really the old West, though. It's great what your ancestors did, but that particular area of the country was just the jumping off place for those who settled the West.
@estelleadamski308
@estelleadamski308 Жыл бұрын
@@lauriedavidson1585 on the map it's midwest true, but, western KS is considered part of the Old West, as Dodge City is considered a frontier town in the Old West. My ancestors were just a little north of that. The Folk Lore , cowboys, Indians ,cattle drives, cowboys, saloons, dancing girls, maybe not the Wild West, but, Old West for sure

The Pawnee Bill and Mae Lillie Photo caught my attention so I did some research on them and it was a sad story how they couldn't have children so they adopted one and when he was 9 years old he was playing cowboys out in the yard while they were gone and he ended up hanging himself and dying. . Filling me also starred in the wild West show with Buffalo Bill

Fantastic photos that clearly show how difficult it was for some of the first settlers around America to wring profits from the place where they had settled. Amazing to see how small and insignificant barrack towns from around 1885 developed into what they were during the first 100 years. Here, the railway has played a major role in this development.

A lot of the photos do say the state. If you google the states in the west you can figure it out. Some are at beginning or end. Arizona, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Utah, California are some. Hope this helped. Nevada too.

I grew up with one foot in the early 1800s. I broke horses to saddle and ran a 30 mile trap line taking beaver, muskrat and mink. I've been to two rendezvous selling my furs. I've shot every handgun and rifle known in the west. I went to a two room school house. There were always horses tied up out front. It was just my childhood.

our history is interesting and sad.. also inspiring considering the courage the people showed. it was a hard living they eacked out (my phone tells me every spelling I've tried is wrong.. maybe the word is wrong??) The picture of the lone man with his belongings on his back make me wonder how many folks were running away from something or someone? The music fits well.. who plays it, please and thank you? Annie Oakley was a tough bird! Thanks 40 Historical Files!! (most all of the pictures make me think of songs by my favorite band-ss, Wovenhand and 16 horsepower..)

Look at depictions of San Francisco in 1852 , only 3 years after the population went from 1,000 to 25,000. Nice wide 'roman' roads, no such thing as "wagon trails'. The photos you use to paint a "wild west" world were taken AFTER the 'civil war', before and during the Civil War Mormon's built their "Great Temple". Salt Lake City from 1840 to 1890, they used GIANT stone construction, until wooden shack building came along after the 'civil' war.

Some stunning photos and great music ... but many photos sadly lacking in documentation esp. re location and time frame. One of the few that does give reasonable information says "Band of Apache Indian prisoners ... Texas ... 1886 -- but it neglects to indicate that this is Geronimo (lower right side) and they are on their way to lifetime captivity in Florida !!

Watching these picture I notice everyone is wearing hats, especially the men. I wonder why we stopped wearing hats. My mom said, that her mother would never leave the house without her hat. She believed you are not properly dressed without you hat. Annie Oakley was a very interesting woman and she was pretty too.

to anyone really paying attention these photos expose a lot of the miss conceptions people have about that time and the old west. such as most people did not wear a six shooter or even carry a gun most of the time. woman rode horses and shot guns, were not barefoot and pregnant all the time. there were free black people and Indians living altogether. so on
