Im on day 3 with my neptune 4 plus, and so far im absolutely blown away. This is my first "real" printer, as my first printer i got a month and a half ago was a crappy little Easythreed K9 printer from temu. The speed and quality im getting with only just beginning to tweak settings is wild! I cant wait until i get it fully dialed in!

@Matt-ek6bf if you're looking for full size pieces for cosplay, I would go with the Neptune 4 Max, the plus cam do most helmets in one print but the extra print area of the max will open up even more prints as one piece, especially for the price difference. I still love my 4 Plus, but I would have gotten the max if I was buying again

Mine is coming in today, received my A1 Mini today. These 2 are replacing my Ender 3 S1. Basically the perfect combination, 1 for small and colour prints, the other for large projects. I considered the max, but it's so massive and the Plus is more than big enough for helmets and such.

Thanks for being honest about the various problems you've had with these printers. It lets me know I can trust your reviews. I was ready to pull the trigger on the 4 Max but after seeing several of your videos, I went with the Bamboo Labs P1S with AMS. Core XY printers are just better. Besides, I feel Elegoo was cheap putting pom wheels on all axis (except pro) and still using leveling knobs for z axis. This is old tech, although the price point is very good, I'd rather pay a little more and get the Kobra 2 max if I was to get a bed slinger.

5:58 I may be wrong, but from what I remember, threads/strings that appear during printing are most often caused by wet filament, I often hear that the filament should be dried before printing because it has very high hygroscopic properties

I bought a Neptune 4 Pro several months ago and have printed a lot with it. TPU shot out the side, escaping between the extruder and hot end, which broke the plastic extruder housing on the right and top where the filament feeds. Elegoo sent me a replacement extruder assembly and I bought another on Amazon. I wish there was no escape path because I print a lot of TPU. I'm considering a Neptune 4 Plus for a new product that's ABS (maybe ASA-CF). I need the larger build area and the Max won't heat the larger bed hot enough for ABS or ASA. I wish the Neptune 4 Plus came in a Pro version with steel rails on the X and Y axes.

I received this about a week ago as my first 3D Printer. Lots of "First printer" learning curves but otherwise I feel pretty justified in my pruchase. By far the most frustrating part has been lack of support - The firmware version you receive is completely random, and the only updates are available exclusively on their Discord as Beta firmwares. The Reskinned Cura profile they sent is just flat-out wrong for build volumes and other stuff. And the profile situation is pretty rough - the only public profiles, even pre-release (Orca), are Community-provided N4Max that you have to clone and fix for N4+, and then heavily tweak. Not loving my layer quality right now but I'm sure that'll get dialed in eventually. Most of my issues are "new to 3d Printing" issues; N4+ has been super solid thus far!

​@@zackfolmar227 Idr specifically but lots of tweaks like default # of top/bottom walls, infill patterns/thresholds, lots of filament tuning like when to turn on the Aux fan, even turning on that there _is_ an Aux fan (I think it was disabled), Skirt/Brim settings, first-layer speed, custom priming GCode at the start of prints, etc. Also not sure about the acceleration values or max speeds. Again, I'm brand new to this so I'm mostly throwing things at walls to see what sticks and adjusting as I go.

Nice review Uncle Jessy, I don’t mind stringing really, as I only make parts for buildings, rolling stock, and locomotives of 1:32 scale where I can easily just file, sand, prime and paint to make my parts to finish my projects and products I hope to sell soon.

Thanks for the Review UJ. I got N4P a week ago and struggled to get anything to adhere to the bed for the 1st 3 days of printing as well as a grinding sound when the bed went to the rear position during homing. I reached out to Elegoo and wound up running the firmware update on the machine and the touchscreen, which went fine after I restarted the machine and unplugged all cables It would not reload the new Firmware until I unplugged the touchscreen cable and powered it off for 5 minutes - FYI). After the update I have had no further grinding and everything is sticking to the plate (I am using the glue that Elegoo included and I am running the auto level before each print). I am having the same issue with stringing - especially on Silk PLA - it's really bad. I am looking for a Temperature Tower to print but I can't figure out how to adjust the gcode for the temp layers inside of OrcaSlicer nor have I found one for this printer ready to go. I would buy this printer again and I recommend it! Beyond the stringing issue, the prints are beautiful, highly detailed and Fast! I'm also printing at 200 - 250 MMS on average with OrcaSlicer and really happy with the quality. If anyone has any feedback/suggestions on the stringing issue or if you can point us to a Temp Tower that will run through OrcaSlicer for the N4P - Please share! Happy Printing everyone!

orca Sliver has an inbuilt temp tower that you just slice and print (it does the temps automatically) - in the top menu go to calibration then select temperature. Also has pressure advance, flow rate and retraction tests.

I had the same type of clog this weekend. It completely engulfed the wires from the control board so there was no salvaging the hot end. Elegoo is sending a replacement. Maybe the silicon sleeve should be wider to prevent the filament from creeping into the open cavity

I own three elegoo machines, one neptune max 3, one neptune 4, and one neptune 4 max. The two neptune 4 works awesome with a custom cura profile, but they both has the same problem, they fail at store the z offset. It's really a pain in the ass, because I have to reset it after 3 or 4 prints in an infinite loop. As far as I can tell, upgrade the firmware can brick the printers. Other thant that, quality and speed are awesome for the price.

Is there a way to adjust it so the mesh profile isn't so wavy and more flat? Or would I be looking into using thermal tape under the build plate to accomplish that?

Personally I haven’t had any stringing with my Neptune 4 max. Honestly I think the reason you have stringing is because of you speed you are printing. I’m usually printing at about 100 or 150. You might have the temp too hot also or you need to increase retraction.

I got my replacement hot end in the mail today. I had the same "clog of death" issue UJ has in the video (and lots of others are having - FranklyBuilt, FauxHamnmer). Plugged it in and the temperature read -40C at power on. I checked the thermistor connector and it's plugged in correctly. If I set the extruder temp to 170C, the display shows a steady climb from negative to positive (so it's hooked up and reading the increase - it just starts out wrong). By 65C, the PLA filament I loaded it already dripping/smoking out of the nozzle. I contacted Elegoo about this latest problem. I really want to like this printer - and it was great when it was working. But I'd have to say I'm becoming very disappointed in my first Elegoo FDM purchase.

I had the same problem with the clog. It ended up making a massive blob on the extruder after only 4 prints. Elegoo needs to have a sensor to stop printing before a massive blob forms and ruins the extruder.

I always get stringing first thing with new printers and personally it has always come down to the flow rate! Silk PLAs require slightly higher, around 103% for me stopped stringing, but for normal PLA+ like 98%. Though I feel exact values may also depend on the printer, speed and temp

Nice video as always! I have really been enjoying my Neptune 3 Plus and really want to get my hands on a 4. Also on my printer I had the exact same issue as you did and when I finally cleaned all of the PLA off the print head I found that the silicone sock had moved a bit and covered up the nozle. Could be the same issue with yours. I had a print that did not stick 100% and I think it caused the silicone cover to snag anyway keep up the great work!

Are you still using the Neptune 4 Plus? I have been having issues with tearing up prints, more specifically articulating dragons, etc. I think the nozzle gets hung up on the infill patterns and breaks print off. I was printing the articulating crocodile when this happened. Any suggestions? I was wanting to print the t-Rex but afraid I will have the same issues

If the nozzle is dragging on the infill you may be over extruding a little bit. I would do the flow calibration built into Cura, orca slicer or super slicer. Or the other thing I did on my first crappy printer was use a raft on those articulated models.

in theory. I would guess because the standard 4 is slightly smaller you might be able to get some faster print speeds off it than the Plus or the Max

I got this same printer and sadly is self destructed when I started to level it. The print head stabbed the bed and actually put a hole in it and jabbed the print nozzle to the point it cant be removed from the head. Now it just shows an firmware error message on the screen when I start it. I'm working with Elegoo to see what can be done but it has been less than 24hr so we will see how that goes. I just wish they had a number I could call to get it taken care of faster. But thanks for posting this video. I am looking forward to all the cool things I will be able to print with it. I got it for the print bed size mainly.

Depending on where you bought it, I bought mine off the Walmart site, and after only printing 4 things and the extruder was destroyed from a print clog, I returned it to Walmart for a refund. You probably can with Amazon also.

@@joycestewart12 I got up with ELEGOO and they actually sent me a ton of parts to make it right. After emailing with them we found that the hot end was the only thing that really needed to be replaced and they said they would send me a new one for free. But then ended up sending me a lot of extra stuff too. I got a new hot end, set of cables, belts, nozzles, a a few other things that I was not expecting. Now it is working great and I have already put over 130 hours on it without a fail (due to the printer) "knock on wood". The only failures I have had are due to some errors in my 3d modeling that I didn't notice.

I saw some videos on the stringing on the pursaxl multi tool prints and it makes me wonder if part of the stringing on the plus and max aren't like normal machine stringing but are caused by the excessive cooling blow strings of filament off the nozzle, kinda like making hot glue spider webs for halloween.

Love the video. Pretty cool machine. To get rid of your stringing, try drying your filament and tweak your retraction speed/distance settings. As for the nozzles, try using E3D Volcano nozzles (if it's the same length, you should be good to go... I did that with my K1 and have had ZERO issues)

Use Prusa Slicer with official Elegoo neptune 4 pro file for Boat, only with that i don't have strings, i do, but like only few of them for 10 hours print. When i used Orca slicer, Orca has some settings that are not in line with elegoo printers and thats why you get tones of strings, just like i did.

First of all, thank you for your efforts, I really liked your publications and I want to buy a 3D printer. It will be my first 3D printer. I'm undecided between Elego Neptun 4 Pro and 4 Plus. In this sense, I have an important question here. I haven't seen an explanation on this issue anywhere. I would be glad if you could help me. For the first time in the 4 Pro version, a metal wheels were used on the extruder rails instead of V-slot wheels. I always saw it in the videos as a new innovative feature for smoot movement. However, in the 4 Plus and Max models, the plastic V-slot wheels are used again. I couldn't find any positive or negative comments about this subject. As you uses devices with both metal and plastic wheels, which one would you recommend? Should I buy the Pro or Plus model according this point? Sometimes it is tempting to buy the plus because of features such as print volume and wifi, but I would still like to hear expert comments and act accordingly. Thanks.

It seems that due to the powerful heating element, the printer cannot calibrate the pid properly, which is why I get temperature spikes in the region of 2-3 degrees. When the nozzle temperature drops below the set 0.1-0.4 degrees, the temperature rises abruptly to +2-3 degrees, which is why I get a wavy graph. It does not depend on the nozzle blowing. I wrote to technical support, but they replied that this was normal. I already had another 3d printer for the klipper, and it was fine there

I'm thinking of buying an fdm printer. But i'm used to resin printers I was wondering if the layers that show up when you print in fdm will bother me. I know for large pieces for e.g. cosplay, I know you have to do filler and sanding but with small pieces like figurines and such better to keep using resin ?

On my N4Max, I've had really, really bad stringing with Overture Easy PLA, much less with the Elegoo Galaxy Black (and their red, but I don't really care for their red -- a little too warm balanced for my taste), and basically none with Polymaker Polylite PLA. I'm running a test print now with the Overture PLA using a 0.2mm retraction and a spiral z-hop and that seems to be making a difference.

thanks for the video been waiting on this one for awhile. i am however concerned that i had the exact same issue as you with the extruder and had a major clog and have a replacement on the way. not sure if this is unusual to be such a common problem as this is only my 2nd printer. elegoo support however have been great and hopefully its a one off and just teething issues
