I had two exhaust studs break on my b18c5, and after being flabbergasted on how much a complete set from Honda cost to replace I went looking around for something else. I ended up using Volvo part number 953047 studs. They cost $3 each, are the correct thread pitch and size, and are made from I believe hardened inconel. Fantastic upgrade, won't rust, and better than OEM. Oh, and 1/4th the price!

The valve cover is grounded thru the valve cover studs. Where you bolted your ground isn't a ground, they are the mounts for the RHD throttle cable brackets.
@LegerAndCo2 жыл бұрын

@travistexas71752 жыл бұрын
I will second this. In hindsight it is obvious that the valve cover is insulated with the gasket and must use the studs. My K24 swap on my EK would not start for this exact reason. Once we solved the issue I felt like an idiot but remember seeing many others make the same mistake and never realize it.
@chandlerbraaten8472 жыл бұрын
Came here to say the same thing. You don't actually ground the valve cover, you ground the cylinder head via the left front stud.
@LikelyCandidate2 жыл бұрын
There are no coil packs bolted to the cover so it shouldn't need to be grounded.

The ground strap on the valve cover is used to give the spark plug wire something to ground to in the event you have spark leak. The valve cover is insulated due to the gasket and grommets. You don’t want that high voltage discharging elsewhere.

The main engine ground is on the pass side frame rail, that's the one that grounds the starter for the big amperage. So the sensor ground doesn't necessarily go through the valve cover, if that's what you're wondering.

A good replacement for the VHT wrinkle paint is rust-oleum brand spray can truck bed liner. Mist it on from 15-18in away until you have full coverage. It leaves the perfect oem texture and you can add a satin red over it to achieve the texture red. This technique achieves a 99% oem texture. But not only that it is much thicker and more durable then the VHT stuff. It covers imperfections much better
@VTECAcademy2 жыл бұрын
Awesome! The Integra sounds amazing with the 3 inch exhaust. Replacing the rear mount would probably make a bigger difference in the engine movement and the Hasport one is only about $136 USD. Although if your stock rear mount is still good, we could see why you wouldn't want to replace that.

Top tip, polish the rocker cover letters up first, then using a cotton bud, put a THIN coating of grease over the letters, then paint. Afterwards, scrape the paint off using a blade. The earth strap goes from the front slam panel to the bottom right dome nut on the rocket cover (as you're stood at the front of the car looking at the engine).
@The_Redkween2 жыл бұрын
Valve cover is grounded to the frame through the strap and the engine is grounded to the frame at the water neck and tranny. That’s how the valve cover and engine share a frame ground. The valve cover isn’t grounded to the block due to the gaskets. That’s the whole reason for that ground strap. For anyone doubting this, the engine and the tranny are exactly the same. They both have rubber mounts isolating them from the frame, therefore they need grounding straps leading from them to the frame.

When doing VHT wrinkle paint, I heat the rattle can in submerged hot water bucket for about 10 min and heat the part up with heat gun at least very warm to the touch, this insures quick flashing = zero runs and just a very even consistency of finish. Final cure you don't really want to blast it with the heat gun point blank like that but bring the whole part up evenly or just throw it in the oven at the lowest setting for a bit (175-220)

I remember back in the days when not a lot of people would look down on Hondas because the local high schoolers would be into import. Now I see a lot of people appreciating old school Hondas, but unfortunately the Honda dealerships are cranking the price on the basic trim of the FK series and FL that it makes it unappealing to even tuning them like before. I know the Honda engineers made leaps in term of horsepower and consumers desire features, but to sacrifice the affordability of the Honda legacy is damaging. Plus, the 1.5 T engines are having head gasket issues and leaving little rooms for tuners to improve on the performance of it makes it less fun. At least I can still be grateful for the K series, and whatever is left with the B series. Awesome content in this channel btw. Very nostalgic, to see the work and look of this vehicle.
