Coming up On Project MIXED UP BOSS the Howard's solid roller cam will be going in and I will be setting the valvetrain up so we can make that 750hp on pump gas!

I would drill and tap the water holes then screw in plugs and drill and tap those to screw your manifold bolts into. Also tig weld up those other bosses and have them machined and drilled at the right angle. You don’t need some little wedge spacers to have to muck with when pulling the manifolds on and off. Remember simple service was your goal. 😎 Time spent now will save a lot later.

I am a rotary guy but appreciate custom engine builds of any kind so that being said , here is an easy solution to your outer holes with the water cross over. Take a page from the lame LS world and run banjo bolts dowb them holes. Not only will you retain the water cross over but the banjos will double as a flange bolt. Simple fast easy and it works.

Casting flash on the NOS manifold is easily machined and obviously was designed for exactly what BOSS/Cleveland Heads and or Forced Induction do best, WOT. Anyone who doubts the performance capabilities of the design need only look at all the copies of the design in all the competitions head designs, especially Big Blocks from GM. The Aussie Performance Community really has taken the Cleveland design to its peak and beyond. I can’t wait to see and hear what this combo produces.

A maverick would be much easier to fit that engine into. With the boss style heads a pinto would need to go tube chassis up front. I Windsor swapped my 1979 pinto and it is very very tight between the firewall and the core support. Also swap headers are available for the 302 but not the 351 windsor the deck height wont allow them to fit with a Windsor topped 351. Custom headers aren't that big of a deal but would definitely be a challenge to make for that engine in the front of a pinto. The Maverick would be much easier to modify to fit considering what the chassis actually is. The falcon chassis under the maverick was what ford was using in the boss 429 mustang they did however make new strut tower braces and reshape the strut towers where they interfered with the engine on the mustang to be able to fit the 429 into it.

Hey, I had a 66 Mustang Coup with 302 and I put a Offenfauser Duel Quad Tunnel Ram Manifold, that I modified. I took the tunnel off and made a Plate out of Aluminum that fit perfect and I bored out all the Plate by drill. Any way, I had to put spacers on that plate that was mounted to the lower part of the intake. I mounted 2-2100 Autolight Carbs. The intake the way I made it had unbelievable Low End Power. It was very similar to a Individual Runner Manifold. I surprised everyone, most thought I was running duel quad, I street raced for many years and I embarrassed a lot of gm people. I could come out of the hole at 2500 RPM, run her up to 6500, that was my red line. 4 speed Close ratio with 4:62 rearend gears in a 8" rear. But, Yes, there is power to be made with the individual runner manifold, but it is Low end Power, I put this intake on a stock motor and it idled perfect at 500rpms. I did many things to that car for the 33 years I had it. Love the Build

You might want to dyno that intake as is with the slight mis match of the intake ports. That mis match can break up fuel molecules for better atomization. Ernie Elliott confirmed this with his Nascar engine testing. He made more power with the mis match. He told me this in person as I somewhat know him and have bought parts from him. It's worth a try.

Andy, you might do a little research on the intake that Glidden ran in the early Cleveland's he built. He just used the bottom of the intake and welded a piece of plate aluminum to the top and reshaped the top be dominator friendly. You might just be able to bolt it down using the existing stud holes. fill the intake to keep the velocity up in the runners. Also that looks like a MSD dizzy. Just put a crab cap on it for you accelerator pump and bowl clearance. Good luck..............

Great score on the intake! Good comments too. I concur with Janks, drop the distributor down a bit, show off the manifold better. If you want an adventure in jetting, drop the dominators straight on and experience the joy of tuning one runner to one Venturi, aka Individual Runner, or Independent Runner. It takes a strong vacuum signal to make it work, but I’d say you got that covered! You’re better off going with the plenum hat and 4150s I’m sure, but twin dominators in the IR configuration would look badass.

Having a 351W with BOSS 9 heads topped off with a NOS 351C tunnel ram is pretty awesome! Hopefully the hp numbers do it justice! @@UnityMotorSportsGarage Well I can't argue with an 11:1 750 hp small block! I was thinking it would make in the 700's. What fuel are you planning on running when its all said and done. I live in Indiana and E85 is everywhere. It regularly checks in around 104-105 octane, helps the engine run very cool, and is cheap. Right now around me it's going for $2.46/ gallon. Please show us as much of the process as possible. I am really interested in all the custom touches on this combination. Keep up the Awsome content. See you in the next one.

Thanks Joseph! One thing I noticed about this intake is the opposite taper it has.. The runners at the plenum is smaller than the exit of the runner... I will cover all of that in the video on epoxying the intake but, for intake surfaces you don't want to have a perfectly smooth surface.. You need to have some texture to keep the gas suspended in the airstream.. I want people to see how detailed it is putting an engine together and not just go from a bare block to a fully running motor on the dyno in a 30 min video! I want to try and show some things that will help inspire people to give putting engines together.... I have some good stuff coming up on setting up the valvetrain and cams.... Thanks again, Andy

Hey Mate good to see charging along with your build, scored a orsum manifold, does Greg Brown make intake manifolds for his heads, also does that speed shop have a intake manifold to suit yates c3 heads on a 8.2 deck dart block

Thank you Aussie supersnake! Greg designed the heads to work with any aftermarket 351W intake.. They dont require a specific manifold... Im using the Cleveland so I can have a dry manifold so I can make fast intake swaps for testing and to access the lifter valley to keep an eye on my lifters... On the 8.2 deck intake, He may have something.. Im not sure but you can email him to find out. Andy

When you epoxy the runners and make them match the intake ports, do you think that will help with lower rpm street drivability?
@UnityMotorSportsGarage

It by shrinking the runner the engine will see it as a longer runner.. which "should" boost mid range torque... This setup will probably make peak torque around 5500 rpm with the cam I'm running! Thanks for Watching Andy

If you buy the kit from Hammerhead you are looking about $6500-7500 depending on your options.. So if you are looking to buy a set of good aftermarket heads such as AFR or Trickflow you would be looking at $2000 so basically you would have $4k more give or take more than a traditional wedge setup... This is just a ball park though.. Hope this helps Andy

Nice Andy... just out of curiosity did the Holley Tunnel Ram fit up correctly. It was sitting on the bench but u didn't go there. Gr8 pick up on a brand new Cleavland Tunnel Ram. Real sweet.

Robert.. the reason I didn't even entertain running the Holley is twofold. One the runners aren't a straight shot to the back of the Intake valve.. The runner length is also too long for the rpm range (7000-7200rpm) I'm wanting to reach and the Cross Sectional area is a bit small for the power I'm trying make... hope all of this makes sense... From reading Vizard's books and articles, he seems to love IR manifolds. I'm betting he'd push you to find some huge Dominators to put on that thing if you can find or make the adapter. Actually, Troy Patterson of TMPCarbs.net has done this a few times for Fords. www.speed-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15971

I don’t think that manifold would be considered as having 100% isolated or dedicated runners as the upper manifold appears to a have a bit of an open plenum to allow some distribution between the 4 cylinders fed by each carb.

Dan, the Weiand adapter I was referring to makes the bottom intake a true IR setup... I would have to assume that they didnt work that well.. Because the ProStock guys gave up on that early '71-'72 but I would love to try it and see what it does!! Andy

@@UnityMotorSportsGarage - I’m guessing that racers gave up on the dedicated runner adapter due to distribution issues. Carbs just don’t provide equal enough distribution resulting in some cylinders bring too rich and others too lean. If tuneable port EFI was used it might work!

If you are going to try it with carbs I would either install EGT bungs (would mess up the nostalgia look) or really check the plugs closely!

David, the goal for it is 750 on pump gas... I'm going to street drive this ALOT.. so I went with a Cam profile that will live in that situation... Once it has been on the street/strip for a while.. we are planning on a all out build that will involve us porting the heads and more Cam and compression to try and break that 1000 mark.. but that is a good bit away...
