Taurus has been making some form of "model 66" since the late 1970s. I owned one back in the late 80's that went out of time. Of course modern Taurus made things are a far cry from those days.
@PatRMG4 жыл бұрын
I've heard many things about their past quality.
@GunFunZS4 жыл бұрын
Most of their '80s and early '90s model 66's were pretty good. The model 85 which is their j-frame clone had a lot of QC problems in the late '80s through mid '90s. Imo I would buy a Taurus 66 off a site like gun broker but not an 85.I'd be willing to buy an 85 for a fairly low cost if I got to inspect it first. It's one of those the good ones are good the bad ones are bad type of things.
@marktwain20533 жыл бұрын
They tend to be somewhat spotty in their quality. They can go from superb to being terrible. I guess I lucked out, my 66 is very nice, but the trigger is a lot lighter than this. On single-action it's almost hair trigger, double-action is as smooth as room temperature butter. Accuracy is right there with the best!

I have been thinking about finding one for a shoulder holster rig to me worn while snowmobiling in the Wind River and Wyoming Range. No shortage of wolf prints&sign in winter on the trails. I actually like most Taurus revolvers over S&w. I’ve owned a lot of good S&w wheel guns, and I had a 686 ssr pro series with a few issues that signaled to me their quality on newer guns took a dump. Front sight came from the factory bent to the left so that had to be replaced, also their new stainless models are total rust magnets for some reason. I cleaned it and kept it oiled and it still had rust issues to where I couldn’t even touch it without having to wipe it down thoroughly. I’ve have a Taurus that was half the price and didn’t rust like that. I can’t explain why it was like that, but $900 dollars spend and it was a total disappointment. Now the gun shot great, but that rust issue turned me off enough that I got rid of it.
@claudb10292 жыл бұрын
I tend to read a lot before buying anything. My knowledge on guns is truly limited. However, I have in the past been a low level employee in a machine shop. Latter I've sold stainless steel products. You seem to be the only one reporting rust issues. Why I do not know. No one states what stainless alloy they use. Some alloys are more rust resistant. The term for all of them is rust resistant-not rust proof. Heat for example can cause stainless steel to rust.

What year is your Model 66? I love the grips on your gun and have asked Taurus if the make them for my mid 2000's Model 66. They have told me they do not make these grips for my 66. The grips on mine are the rubber finger groove with the screw to remove the grip on the right side. The only grips like yours have the screw to mount the grip on the bottom. Did you have to modify the bottom of the grip frame to make the grips work on your gun? Thank you and I loved the video.
