Taurus model 66

My first revolver. Of course it would be a .357 magnum. This is the Taurus model 66 .357 magnum. Although the price is not as high as other brands, I have yet to have any issues with this revolver. People think you have to spend a lot of money on a gun to get a good home defense gun, and you don't. This gun is around $500 and is a great home defense gun. If you are into competition you wouldn't even be looking at a gun like this.

I bought one last year in Spring time. Stainless/matte 6." Nice gun for $. I've owned a couple Taurus' in past... .22 Magnum & .380 ACP. Both stainless/good guns. My first .357 Mag was a Dan Wesson 15-2 VH in '85. Nice video! 🔫 👍

I have the stainless steel version in both 4" and 6" barrel configurations. I replaced the grips with wood grips from Hogue. Both are solid performers.

I am debating on a 4 or 6 inch revolver. Is the 6 inch too heavy and hard to carry in a holster?

@@mokgable The extra barrel length only adds a couple of ounces. Just keep in mind that you're looking at 2 1/2+ lbs. either way.

When you shoot both of these, what are your thoughts? Is 6 inch more accurate, less recoil?

@@ASEmastermechanic The longer sight radius on the 6" model can contribute to greater accuracy. The longer barrel provides an ever so slight increase in velocity. Lastly, the 6" model is slightly less "snappy", which also can contribute to greater accuracy. Now with all that B.S. aside, I do find that I'm a little more accurate with the 6" model. Both are loads of fun and pleasant to shoot.

I love this gun,. mine does not have the key lock and do prefer that version. My only issue is I think the factory grip is a bit skinny, After putting a new grip on it , I thing its great! With some practice I'm very confident at 50 yards and stretcher it out a few times to a 100 yard. .Very nice video.

No the lock is not cool Taurus. Please get rid of them. After 2000 rounds or so out of my Rossi R351 it locked up and failed me and it is was my edc. We can't be having those failures on our guns and getting killed as a result. A trigger lock will suffice for the morons who don't know how to keep the guns out of their kids hands. Please remove these features and save lives in defensive situations!

@@stevenblake6939 not a user error. Factory declared it a lemon, full replacement. Sold it for a Ruger without a lock. "User error" is having a gun out in the open for a kid to grab instead of a portable gun safe or trigger lock. No need to mess with more internal parts.

Thanks for the video! I do not think that is a cool safety feature. I am of the opinion that it creates a safety issue. Lock it forget and when you need it your screwed. I may use mine for a different purpose and I don’t have to worry about the kids mine have been shooting since 5-6 years old and compete on rifle and shotgun teams so the have their own guns.

Especially since, with a revolver, you can swing the cylinder out and put a padlock through the frame, or put a padlock through the trigger guard behind the trigger. That way it's locked, and it's OBVIOUSLY locked.

At least the lock mechanism isn't a Hillary Hole on the side of the frame with a stupid "Locked" pop-up flag like on S&W (Woke & Wesson).

Taurus 66s have always had adj. Rear sights. The old style(6shots) are by far better than any new gun. You should do your homework.

It's a revolver. He opened the action and swung the cylinder out to show the viewer the gun was unloaded. You're allowed to do that, like when you're cleaning a gun and you LOOK DOWN THE BARREL for fouling, damage, etc. There's ABSOLUTELY NO DANGER OF A GUN GOING OFF when the cylinder is out, any more than there is a danger of a semi-auto going off after it's been disassembled.
