Years ago, when we were kids and our parents had a dilemma on how the plants in our house would survive while on a 3 week out of town trip. My Mom just placed all our potted plants in the bathroom and in the middle , let the water droplet drip slowly from the tap on an inverted bucket hoping that the splash would help all the plants survive. A small window provided the sunlight. When we returned, we were in a shock, the high humidity and the limited sunlight caused the plants to grow taller than usual and have abnormally big leaves as if they were reaching out to the small window. However, the plants got normal in 3-4 weeks after we put them back. But I could never forget the abnormally big leaves of the plants.

Air becomes "thinner" as humidity increases. In fact, cold, dry air with high barometric pressure is best for lift. Also, while there is no scientifically plausible way this could have occurred in the earth's past, a lower gravity would also assist in flight. A more thorough understanding of how gravity works might allow for a variation to be plausible in the future, but for now it is considered inconceivable.

Question. I been wondering something for a long time. Can you make insects like that again?? I mean if I was to take like dubia roaches n raise them in a sealed tank that had 35%O2 in it would they get huge after a bunch of generations went by? Has that ever even been tried? If I had a supply for the gases I would need for atleast a few yrs I would so try it out. But could it be done?

No, I don't think so. Unless you also apply selection pressure, there is no reason for them to get bigger.
@erikiacopelli451
@erikiacopelli451 3 жыл бұрын
@@dag1196 ok so say I raise them like that n any small ones i take out of that ecosystem and only leave the largest of all. Would that trigger it or do I need an actual animal to put pressure on them fully??
@dag1196
@dag1196 3 жыл бұрын
@@erikiacopelli451 Yeah I guess that could work, kind of like breeding dogs. However, there is a possibility that the insect does not have the genetic potential to get that large. Also, if you are going to select the animals yourself you could get problems further on, for example by selecting one trait like body size you can also accidentally be selecting for other traits such as changes in digestive system (that's a process called pleiotropy). So I guess you should then have very extensive knowledge of the genetic makeup of the animals. For an interesting experiment related to this you could look at the E. Coli long term evolution experiment on Wikipedia. They ran this experiment since 1988 and showed that bacteria in culture evolved to, among other things, faster growth rates and bigger cell sizes.

I’m here because I saw one of these on the ground jump up and fly right by me… the most insane thing I’ve ever seen and when I looked it up it said there is still a few in Canada this might be a different species but this was at least 2-3ft long and wide… I was utterly mind blown and look around and a lady was right there walking the other way and said “what the heck was that!?!?” It’s body was hanging as it flew away indistinguishable from a dragonfly. Nobody believed me lol.. anybody else!?

15 years ago one hot summers day... i was walking down a canal in greater manchester england when i heard a noise like that... i thought at first it was a strimmer but as i turned around that is what i saw.., it was huge... all my hairs stood on end and i absolutely kacked my pants.. it buzzed around anctually flew towards me... before flying back down to the direction it came.. i kept thinking it must be some kind of drone although at the time drones i dont think existed... rc helicopters did... surely it wasnt real... it wings each side were easy 1.5 ft... it looked almost exactly like that... i did try to get a good look at it and iv seen plenty of dragon flys... it looked very real
