I have a big belief in starting small. Someone recommended this to me when I was starting to do watercolour painting. It's helped me a lot. I'm going to cut my boards down a lot before trying this on either my yupo paper or on anything larger. Luckily, I recently picked up some plastic hollow-core plastic board from outside a factory recently. I was intending to use this for making some sewing fabric storage. I'm sure there'll be lots of smaller bits leftover so that will be useful for practising. Now, you've inspired me to try alcohol ink art. I bought the inks quite a few years ago and have never quite gotten around to starting it. (I have about 100 projects on the go at any one time. I'm still restoring my courtyard table and in the midst of creating a movable shade to go over it. Grommets are done- just need to attach the ends to the poles somehow, without them slipping down! My native tree drops gumnuts and debris onto the table constantly so I need something over the table before attempting any artwork outside. From what I've read, alcohol inks need to be used in plenty of air- not inside! Thanks for the inspiration and ideas.

I got into art in the 80-90s and loved mixed medias/abstract/handmade paper. With abstract there really is no right or wrong and everyone sees something different. Then I got divorced…. And am just now getting back to art. I love the resin work, acrylic pours, etc. but just haven’t started any of if. All the supplies are expensive (for me), but watching your videos, shows that I wouldn’t need a lot to start out, since I would need a lot of practice/experimenting first. Thank you for showing us how you get all these different effects… My creative juices are flowing again and I’m ready to “play”!!! lol

This is by far the most thorough tutorial I’ve come across. The one or two color suggestion for starters is so valuable as most people would go with as many or even buying a set thinking the more colors, more options. I know I’m guilty of this 😖. Poster papers and photo papers are also an awesome cheaper alternative to Yupo for practice. Great for people who are on a budget but still want to pursue this hobby. Lastly, I actually love the gold accent. It brings out the design even more. Awesome work. Thanks for sharing. New sub here!

I was awful and I have been wanting to use what I have and make something I loved. Another perfectionist here and it helped knowing it doesn’t have to be and I can fix what I don’t love. It also helped knowing all of the things I did wrong and how to correct them or try or practice until it starts to be how I want it. I started using AI’s during the pandemic about 8 months ago and I found your channel by searching for alcohol inks on canvas as I am just starting to try my hand at them after using other substrates. I am so impressed with how this turned out especially since it looks like you were dealing with a great deal of humidity. I have two dehumidifiers in my studio and some days it’s still not enough to rid the air of it to be able to get crisp, clean lines and ripples and its SO frustrating! I always use my different blow dryers and never caught on to use the handheld blower but I’m so glad I learned something new today!

You are an awesome teacher.Thank you . I have been doing alcohol ink art and in the last 2 days got brave enough, and did it on canvas!and they turned out well.I use a regular plastic bottle with a thin nozzle to fill my alcohol, and kind of spray it on the canvas, and also use a sponge brush to spread it.My Big problem is,I am impatient and feel ,oh I must hurry up and I in my 2nd piece, added a color that kind of did not sit well, but finally managed to salvage the painting.I have so much to learn.I used the dust air can,my fingers freeze, but I can move the ink better than with a metal straw and my breath.I will order the lens cleaner air thing u use.Once more,Thanks a lot.

Thank you Redmaple2008, it takes time, patience and practice. That's awesome I'm glad you salvaged the painting. That's the wonderful thing with Alcohol Inks and please don't use a straw, the fumes are very dangerous for your lungs. 💯
