This is by far the most thorough tutorial I’ve come across. The one or two color suggestion for starters is so valuable as most people would go with as many or even buying a set thinking the more colors, more options. I know I’m guilty of this 😖. Poster papers and photo papers are also an awesome cheaper alternative to Yupo for practice. Great for people who are on a budget but still want to pursue this hobby. Lastly, I actually love the gold accent. It brings out the design even more. Awesome work. Thanks for sharing. New sub here!

This is really helpful, thank you for sharing your process. It's so nice to see artists sharing their expertise. I'm just starting out with alcohol inks and my biggest battle at the moment is trying to create pieces that don't look overworked. You see some peoples work which looks like the ink has just found its own beautiful form with very little intervention, and even though I know that probably isn't the case it can be frustrating trying to achieve that effect!

Thank you for your helpful instruction. I have the Ranger alcohol inks and the tip is so large it drops way too much ink out. Would you happen to have any suggestions to help with that issue? I know I could get dropper bottles and transfer them, but I have a lot of inks so that doesn't seem to be the easiest solution. Hoping for something simpler to solve the problem. Thanks!

Beginner here ??? Do the inks already have alcohol in them? If not, and I have inks (maybe they are alcohol inks, need to look)...also 2 more ?’s. 1) Can I add alcohol to regular acrylic paint? 2) Can I add fine colored powder to some alcohol???? Thank you!!! Love your videos!!!💜
@AskariArt
@AskariArt 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, So the inks that I use actually have alcohol in them. Please don't add alcohol to acrylic because it will break up the acrylic and it won't work properly. You can add alcohol to powdered colors I did that in one of my videos I can't remember which one where I mixed my own color using alcohol or blending solution (Tim Holtz) to make a unique metallic color
@leesmac404
@leesmac404 3 жыл бұрын
One more question. Thanks you sooo very much. So, I have Liquitex acrylic inks…can I mix them with alcohol and be able to do alcohol ink paintings with that mixture?? Sorry I don’t know, just buying so many things and trying and not sure what I should REALLY be buying??? Thank you for your guidance!!!! 💜
@AskariArt
@AskariArt 3 жыл бұрын
@@leesmac404 I don't believe liquitix acrylic will work with alcohol if you mix it. It will turn gummy. You can do alcohol ink paintings with either Tim Holtz or copic (more expensive) there are a few other companies but they need to be alcohol based. However, you can paint with alcohol ink let it dry then paint acrylic on top of the already dry alcohol ink. You can't mix them together wet.

Hi, this is Dolores. New to the craft and binge watching tutorials for guidance. I have a Ranger blower that I am having difficulty directing, don't know if the bulb will soften with use but I am far from directing the ink in the manner I want. You seem to use a downward approach and from other videos I watched the angle seemed to be almost parallel with the surface. What angle gives the most control.

If I wanted a gallery wrapped black canvas to paint on could I cover it with black acrylic paint? I am very excited about your work and teaching style. Thank you for sharing. Molly McCollum

Thank you, unfortunately acrylic paint tends to break up when alcohol is added to it. Not all acrylic paint but some. I have used acrylic paint as a base and the alcohol tends to destroy it and it looks really bad. So from my experience I don't think black acrylic paint would work. But if you do give it a try and it works let me know

I’ve just ordered and now waiting for my alcohol inks to be delivered. So I’m bing watching so many tutorials. So pleased to have found you. Will be watching more of yours. So very helpful, your techniques are fabulous. So many times whilst watching I was amazed as I went from loving your composition to thinking you’d gone too far and messed it up. You are amazing. Can’t wait to get started. 😊

Wow after the line you drew with ink the started blowing at several points you made a peacock and you did not see it? I would of stopped and looked to see how can I keep this cool peacock looking and add the feather with other colors to make a peacock was at your first few blowing strokes rewind your video to beginning and slowly go forward, it was awesome you made a running flying like peacock lol now slow forward to the 8:03 stop freeze the frame right at 8:03 you will see a like peacock style that is awesome and it looks feathery, yeah interesting art at 8:03, can you do it again? Maybe not…lol 🎉😅😊 oh and BTW love your videos and was thinking on using the foam boards they have foam between 2 poster boards and it’s called fam boards, have you tried on those yet? Can you do one in video? Thank you so much. Oh the ink painting are similar to acrylic pour blow paintings glad can use ink or can I make my own ink using acrylic paints too?

Thanks again. I sometimes do see things in it, but I keep going because something in my head says "you're not done" I can never repeat it to look the same. It's always different. I truly appreciate you and I have not tried foam boards as I think they might be porous. This ink is a dye based as acrylic paints are pigment based. You may want to try acrylic dyes which are activated with water instead of alcohol. I'm not sure how they work exactly but would love to try them one day.

I LOVE your work......and your teaching style! What is your blow dryer? When I use my travel blow dryer on low, it blows everything off the substrate, ugh! Thanks!

Hi , I was trying to use my alcohol paints but they can be spread out as you do so, they have small dry pieces that can’t be disolve ! Do you think they expired ! They are pearl colors! Is there a solution? I’ve just bought them two weeks ago! Thanks

Pearls work a bit differently than the regular alcohol ink. You might want to use Blending solution with pearls.

Hi, I just subscribed....I'm loving your videos. Can I ask please if you dip the brush in alcohol before you use it and also, is there alcohol in the hand blowing tool you use?
@AskariArt

Thank you so much Ursula! Most of the time I dip in alcohol. Sometimes the dry brush gives me a better fade and slightly finer lines. The hand blowing tool doesn't have any alcohol in it.

Great use of a brush , finally an artist shows how to actually use an artistic versus crafty approach. I personally use brushes and only the blow dryer when mixing the alcohol or blender solutions into the inks. Any tips to how to seal the finished painting? I'm still having a little trouble sealing the finished product . Can it be placed under matting and glass framed without sealing.
@AskariArt
@AskariArt 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Graham, Thank you so much! Yeah I'm more about using the brush to move the ink the way I like it not leaving it to chance, It's more of an intent of the artist's perspective when painting. Here's a video that shows how to seal a painting after I've completed it. This approach would work on paper or canvas. The video is showing how I do it on Canvas but it's the same process kzbin.info/www/bejne/mou7maqcmtajqsU I think you could put it under matting or glass as long as the glass is UV. The problem is sunlight and UV. That is what fades some of the alcohol in colors not all colors. I do have some demo pieces that my wife framed that sit in a bathroom that were never sealed or under uv glass protection and it was painted 4 years ago. it just depends on where it's hung

Well Howdy Neighbor! I live just up north from you in Celina! I started using AI’s during the pandemic about 8 months ago and I found your channel by searching for alcohol inks on canvas as I am just starting to try my hand at them after using other substrates. I am so impressed with how this turned out especially since it looks like you were dealing with a great deal of humidity. I have two dehumidifiers in my studio and some days it’s still not enough to rid the air of it to be able to get crisp, clean lines and ripples and its SO frustrating! I always use my different blow dryers and never caught on to use the handheld blower but I’m so glad I learned something new today!
