First part of the winter test. On this part, I travel south to Kristiansand and back. I didn't hit any snow. But at least I got to test the car on motorway and some twisty roads.

6:05 You can actually use the maxidot display (the one in the middle of the instrument cluster) to display anything you want even during navigation, just hit the back button (right thumb) and then scroll to the menu item you'd like. If you still want to see turn by turn navigation, hit the Nav button on the center stack twice, that brings up a turn by turn window on the left side of the center touchscreen.

You can get stronger regen by pushing the gear stick to the left while in D/B mode (and to the right for weaker regen). That's what the + and - means, as seen on the gear stick at 21:05.

Cool video. I'm deciding between the Chevy Spark and the 1st Gen eGolf, about 2016. They have the basic same range. But the Spark is really small. I'm 6'3" stood next to my coworkers cat it's tiny the regular Golf I fit in fine.

I've been waiting for a this video for months now. I have a 90 mile round trip commute from Worcester into Boston. Level-2 chargers are available but often full. Level-3 is still a bit of a detour in Chestnut Hill or Marlboro Simon Malls and soon Interstate 90 rest stops. With the continued upgrades in Massachusetts and the 35.8kw model out later there is a pretty good chance this car might be in my future.

Thing to remember this car is is really is an interim step before the ID etc go into production. VW may have been a bit slow off the starting blocks with a fully dedicated EV but generally speaking EV take up has been fairly slow and by waiting a while, they will probably benefit from improved battery technology right when sales start ramping up and they have the car to catch those sales

When the e-Golf is fast charging with low speed, it could be the battery pack, there is going to warm after several fast charging sessions. So it slows down, because there is no battery cooler. It is the same problem with af Nissan Leaf. /Jan

Bjorne, I enjoy your vids. I leased a 2019 e-Golf SE (no fun LEDs inside) and love it in San Diego, but my first Thanksgiving trip to Vegas (333 miles) had me cursing my car and lusting after Teslas. Last summer I drove 1,957 miler RT into NorCal from SoCal, about 30 recharge stops. VW limits L3 charging to 1 in 24 hours. I ran into this daily over my 2 weeks. After much frustration I found this detail in the manual or spoke to someone at VW. You didn’t seem to encounter this in the 24 kW or the 35.8 kW models. Thoughts?

One intersting thing with the touchscreen that you did not mention (at least that I could hear) was the ir-sensor strip below the touchscreen. As soon as you moved your hand in front of the screen, the menu bar in the bottom popped up before you had touched the screen. And when you moved your hand away the bottom menu disapeared. Nice feature when the screen is so small (compared to the Tesla). I wonder how sensitive the sensor is? Like if you sit like an "cruiser" (or whatever they call it today), leaned back and way down in the seat so you hardly see over the dashboard and have one hand over the gear shift and the other over the top of the steering wheel :) Would the screen detect if you wiggle/move the fingers (in beat to the music), or do you need to get closer before it detects your hand? I also hope they change the color of those interior lights, probably a easy fix with todays LED's.

I'm pretty sure that german cars have the fuel cap/ charging port on the right to keep you out of the traffic if you're at the side of the road. Japanese cars on the other hand have it on the left, not to keep you in traffic, but because they drive on the left side.

In the next week or two I will fulfill a longtime dream of mine and buy my first electric car! But! I only have around $15000US to work with, so that means used. Luckily (or unluckily depending on how you look at it) most EVs depreciate in value quite fast, so really nice used ones can be found with low miles, one owner, etc. I've really been trying to locate a 2017 egolf because that was when they got the much larger battery (35.5 vs 24kwh), but it has been impossible to find one in that price range. Close, but not quite. Anyway, for the way _I_ drive, even 80-ish miles of range with average use will be fine for the vast majority of the time for me. On the rare occasions that I need to go further there is always the quick charger on the way there and/or back...

36:40 what is the meaning of green number plates in Norway?
@ajzarnel
@ajzarnel 7 жыл бұрын
Funky Dunky those are non passenger cars, like delivery vans.
@therandomtester9561
@therandomtester9561 7 жыл бұрын
Anyone can buy those cars, does not have to be a company. The rules has changed, earlier you could by for instance the Audi S/RS4 estate with green plates. In same periode other estates and 4x4 (Pajero, Patrol etc) and pickups was normal with green plates as well. Taxes on cars here are crazy high. With a van with green plates, you pay about 20% of the taxes. Must be max one row with seats (2 or 3 normally) and fit a box of a given size in the rear.
@funkydunky1671
@funkydunky1671 7 жыл бұрын
Rayner Bønå, if you buy the van and later install the second row of seats, is it a serious crime or merely a ticket?
@therandomtester9561
@therandomtester9561 7 жыл бұрын
As long as the seats are secured propperly with seatbelts and such, they most care about the taxes. For the e-NV200 I'm not sure, as electric cars have no taxes, yet. But if you do that with a fossil car, I think.. you get a ticket pluss you have to pay the seat-taxes. For a NV200, the backrow-seats will be taxed at around 100.000 NOK (startprice of diesel-van is about 200.000 NOK, and just over 300.000 NOK for the NV200 Evalia). For a Toyota Land-Cruiser, I think the seat-tax is more like 300.000 NOK. 1 Euro is around 10 NOK. This tax is reduced as the car gets older, so a 5 year old car you may only have to pay half of that.

You are doing lots of energy usage comparisons between all the cars except for tesla now a days. It would be great if you compared them to a model s and an x as well. Mostly so that people understand how efficient the model s is and how bad the nedc cycle is, because the model s real milage is a lot closer to the nedc in percentage than what the Leaf is for example. With the Leaf, in my opinion, you get only around half of the NEDC range in real conditions, but with the tesla you can get almost 70% of the nedc.

Id guess when ioniq uses 170Wh/km the model s would use 210 Wh/km, no way the model s would use 340Wh/km. You are definitely incorrect.

After dieselgate VW has a lot of catching up to do in EV to make up for it. It is nice to know the E-Golf is getting a larger battery, but the i3 even with its 33kWh seems to be a more attractive car due to carbon-fibre construction, thin low rolling resistance tires and more power (even if it is more expensive). Still if VW would actually SELL them here (VW hates North America, even more after EPA *laughs*), I get a Golf GTE in a heartbeat.
