I am a packaging engineer. For someone that does not design packaging for a living, this was very well done. I have tried doing this with fusion a few years ago with very little luck. Its good to see that it can be done now.

@@adskFusion Very minor things. Like, that box was made out of corrugated not cardboard. Cardboard is what the material is made out of. When it is in a fluted form like that it's corrugated. But that really does not matter. The slots should have been wider. All the way out to the fold. Because when the slot is close to a fold like that because the ends of the slots will rip out. The best part about watching this, is I think this is the future for my industry. You did so well with this because you drawing this in a 3D format. Designers in my industry now have to draw in a flat format and there very few CAD programs that will let you fold that up after it has been drawn in the flat. And all of those programs are very expensive. As much as $800 a month. Yes, you read that right. I make a lot of rebuildable designs. If you ever want to collaborate on making something like this rebuildable let me know. I think it could be very helpful for amateurs wanting to make there own boxes.

Hi, really good session, demonstration and explanation. I just almost finished my *parametrized* box as I do want to feed this into my laser cutter, so I can created my tiny boxex based on INNER space Demand ( Box need to big that size to be able to place something inside fitting exact ) OR on max OUTER-Space available ( the latter if the box needs to fit IN somewhere). But I WOULD LOVE to use your CardBoard appearance. Is that avialable somewhere, please?

Hi, @35:58 I would have expected the dialog to have the "Standard" tools like with extrude so that you could say "up to this edge" but with a offset of -0.008, so that if you later on change the height of the side walls it would also automatically adjust the front wall. alternatively parameters should have probably been used.
@bradtallis8968
@bradtallis8968 5 жыл бұрын
@Eyal- Yes, we could have used parameters for this, but I didn't want to over-complicate this design. I have another LiveStream where I show how you can use parameters to drive a sheet metal bracket.

Thanks I learnt a lot from this tutorial. Is it possible to animate the unfolding of the box, in the Animation section?
@adskFusion
@adskFusion 3 жыл бұрын
@Richard Downham- Unfortunately, no, not in the Animate Workspace. However, you could capture your screen and just use the Unfold command in Sheet Metal and pick the bends individually to show how they unfold.
@epeleg
@epeleg 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, @37:57 when you add the second edge, I can see why did the flanges go both the the same side, presumably because the bends are at the same angle to the surface to which those edges belong to. I wander what would happen if you added some other edges... is there some "right hand" rule to help us know which direction they will fold to ? (maybe outside and prependicular to the face the edge belongs to ...)
@bradtallis8968
@bradtallis8968 5 жыл бұрын
@Eyal- The flange will always fold in the direction of the face that the edge is on. so, if you click on the bottom edge of a part, it will fold down, for example. You can use the "flip" option to have it flip the direction, if needed.

@47:25 - Its nice that you are able to add material using the flage command but is it wise to do so? what are the benefits? because IMHO at least on the timeline it would make more side to use something else as it would probably be more "readable" later on.
@bradtallis8968
@bradtallis8968 5 жыл бұрын
@Eyal- You could use other commands such as "Press/Pull" or draw an extra sketch and extrude, but to me, it is faster to just use the flange command. This also gives you the flexibility to use symmetric or two-offset flange which gives you more control with less steps.
@epeleg
@epeleg 5 жыл бұрын
yet another Q: does fusion actually validate the "fold-ability" of the sheet metal object? I mean in theory you could draw the side inserts of this box smaller (on the Z axis) and "wrap" them with severla loops of the side wall (like a rectangular spiral of sorts) in a way that will not have any collisions but will not be fold-able regardless of the order in which you make the folds. which leads me to another Q: Is there a way to provide an "Order of foldering" to such an object? I am guessing that would be the first part in being able to 1) animate the folding 2) detect such "during the folding collisions".
@bradtallis8968
@bradtallis8968 5 жыл бұрын
@Eyal- Fusion doesn't check the "manufacturability" of your design. That is up to the designer. However, it does check to see if the body is self-intersecting.

@tralfazy
@tralfazy 2 жыл бұрын
Making changes after a mirroring seems to be risky and has led to some really bad mess-ups for me. Sometimes I just do the extra work on the other side and skip the mirroring because of that. Especially on something that's complex. Not even undo will save it sometimes. (this is in July 2022)

When working with foamboard, you sometimes cut parts of the foam to make 90° bends like it's shown in this video at around 0:30 kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6myn4hrfLCGgKs. Can you do folds like that with the sheet metal tools too?
@adskFusion
@adskFusion 5 жыл бұрын
If you're cutting/severing it completely, it would be a new part or body. Otherwise I would just use an extremely tight corner similar to what Brad showed.
@ulaB
@ulaB 5 жыл бұрын
@@adskFusion If you look at the example I posted above, part of the foam is removed to be able to do an extremely tight corner with just bending the paper and glueing the foam together. The interesting part would be to have F360 remove the foam as needed on a bend.
