Inspired by the spirit of gratitude that is amplified each Thanksgiving day, Brian Doyle set out to extend the power of gratitude beyond one holiday in his unique social experiment: "365 Days of Thank You." Learn how two words can change your world and world view.
Read about 365 Days of Thank You here: 365thankyou.wor...
Brian Doyle is a junior studying Human Services and Social Justice at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. Passionate about collecting stories, helping others and the power of ideas, he brings this passion to life as the organizer of TEDxFoggyBottom. In 2013, Brian orchestrated an interactive installation of Candy Chang's "Before I Die" wall on the GW campus -- providing students and the community a public forum to share their dreams and aspirations.
TEDxYouth@SanDiego is an independently organized TEDx event designed by youth, for youth to bring the power of big ideas to the youth of San Diego -- and the world. WWW.TEDxYOUTHSANDIEGO.COM
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Brian was a friend of mine in HS and yes we met on a basketball court (Newbridge Road Park). I've googled him many times over the years but for some reason nothing came up, which doesn't make sense. I wanted to reconnect with him and share with him what his act of kindness meant to me; I doubt he ever realized what he was doing or the importance of his act would have on me. I didn't even know what it meant until many decades had passed and I found the time to reflect on my life and the people who passed through it. If any of his family read this, please know that God worked through him that day (September '71... I'm sure God used him many times), early in our HS time together. One small gesture, in hindsight, changed my life. I was so saddened when I heard of his passing a couple of years ago. I wish we could have met up for a beer just one more time so I could thank him. RIP Brian. I hope we will meet again.

What I see is a former student becoming a man. The man, I have seen at times after graduation, but now on stage, I see a great man compelled by the strength of his character to remind us of what is so simple- gratitude. Thanks, man.

Thank you Brian, for the reminder to give thanks not only to those in our lives that have had an impact, but also, those we haven’t met yet, those we meet in passing, anyone who cross our paths, truly, for their very presence, creates a neural pathway in our brains, they have been seen, heard, discussed, remembered for at least that moment in time, if not for a lifetime. Thank you so much!

I love how the main focus of this talk is saying thank you, and not the fact that Brian is gay. Clearly he is a kind hearted person. Saying thank you is so important. And I thank you for that, Brian.

Thank you Brian for sharing this powerful message. I am watching this clip 6 years after it was first posted on YT, and after Thanksgiving 2020. I too have just concluded 40 days of Heart Centred Reflections sharing with about 200 friends, members of family, teachers and colleagues around the world. On this concluding day, I was open to the Universe, asking what am I going to say to day? I received the response from you, a Thankful Heart! Thank You!

Wow. I didn't realize how hard this was to do until I started today. A lot of emotions kick in from the start. You never know what someone may need to hear to make their life have more value.

Wow... I was so impressed by this young man, and his quest. I love positive inputs to my life, and feel this to be one. Bless your heart young man, though we will never meet; thank you for the positive feelings your presentation gave me. I'm a 100% service-connected disabled (American) veteran, residing in the Philippines. I just got blasted by Typhoon Yolanda, and in 2005, my home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina (is that some kind of luck, or what?). I'm thankful I survived all these challenges, and thankful to hear this video presentation.

it's not a groundbreaking new idea, it is your personal discovery you've done for yourself. I think you're one of the many people who have realized that life is short and the words are important words like thank you and I love you
