Good loco's but we were always getting split exhaust bellows and the were a pig to change also reblocking was an awful job on these , they were well and truly thrashed round our way , the exhausts use to glow cherry red triggering fire bell (ignored and paper jammed in )

Used to live in Garelochhead in the mid 80’s-early 90’s, on the hill just below the station, which was on the West Highland Line from Glasgow to Fort William, Oban and Mallaig. This was the soundtrack to my teens. Very evocative to hear it again!

I went on a school trip to the outdoor centre at the head of the Loch, back then it was mostly 27s, and you hear them up on the hill climbing to the station and then away up the hill to Whistlefield. They made a wonderful. racket

One of my happiest memories is of my late father, my brother and myself getting a guided tour of Norwich depot in the late 70s whilst on holiday; we were lucky enough to ask if we could look around when the Eastern Region GM was there! So guided tour we were given and the highlight was being shown how you started up one of these, complete with a short run. Happy days indeed.

Interesting to see so many younger volunteers, and a fairly full final story of the work on the engine. It's a shame that there is not an equivalent video for the steam department. I do not know how long it has taken to get 370025 to this point. The same small Romney team has been working on 80105 since 2015. Perhaps a similar video of its completion in the new shed might be in order.

It`s funny, but in the States the driver sits on the right side of the cabin.Love trains, diesel locos. When I was a kid my friends and I used to hang out around a yard with a 20 mile trunk line. Some of the drivers would let us ride along in the loco back and forth for a nice 3 hour trip and got to blow the horn.Probably wasn`t "legal" then but we did it anyhow.Couldn`t get away with that 50 years later.

Any 37/40/44-46 drivers out there? I always thought that the windscreen shape of these early locos compared to later designs like the 47/50/52's etc gave restricted forward vision unless you were 6 foot plus or sat on a few cushions to bolster your height. Am I mistaken or was there no issue with visibility?

There was some seat height adjustment. Great to see start up succesful on first attempt. Whistled like a 40 whixh you don't always hear... Talking of not hearing things, 2 whistle boards were passed without a sound from the horns? Also, was authorisation obtained to pass that initial signal at Boness at Danger, despite being the only line movement...always a good idea to keep the rail safety practices and rules going in order to prevent errors when in service proper...other than that, well done on a good achievement restoring this loco...next stop, the paint shop...? Take care, Jon B.
