Your the most patient debugger ever. Kinda like if the terminator was an electrical engineer.

I like this style of videos. Learning about failure modes of such devices not only helps in repairing them, but also is a valuable lesson for young designers like me.

I don't believe I've ever seen a glass 1N400x diode before! As much as I like your music, the use of Beethoven's 9th seems fitting here. Nice work!

Yeah, I had it in the junk bin, looked at markings under the scope - 1st time I've seen a glass one too. No idea where I got it from. I got nothing on Beethoven!

That's as maybe, but I'm told that Beethoven was terrible at troubleshooting and couldn't make a decent solder joint. Great work, I admire your persistence.

That into video was ace... I know it was "only" old school components falling in slowmo... but I thought it was a beautiful sight. Mein Gott!!! Look at the .......... size of that transformer! Is that SOCKETED TRANSISTORS?!?!

My first ever job in the late 1960s was designing TVs - we actually did the first single board colour set. Anyway, there was a chap who said he could fault find any non-working TV in less than half an hour. So we built a special - every single component on it had previously failed. He worked on it on-and-off for three weeks before he gave up. I'm thinking you my be faced with one of these...

Thanks! For replacing those old dual matched hFE transistors, you can get modern ones in TSSOP packages in the .5$/qty 1 range. I mounted one on an old DIMM (memory module) that happened to have the right footprint with nearby vias for wires. Cut the chunk out and mounted it in my old HP supply. It looked funny but worked very well.

Looking for a single fault can be misleading. Mostly it is the best approach but I have seen 10 faults after a lightning strike. Then you use the shotgun BUT first confirm this is the case. Also prophylacticly replacing old electrolytic is a good practice.

What happened to the Amp build?
@AmRadPodcast6 жыл бұрын
That's one of those projects that is 99% complete, and I couldn't find a way to make it interesting for KZbin. I was also really unhappy with the way the enclosure came out. I've been playing around with different enclosure ideas. So, after the RocketCam stuff, I'll probably return to it and get it biased. Thanks for checking in!

at what point is it faster to just list it on ebay in the New Jersey area? :)

I am unfamiliar with the term "beyond economic repair". I bought it, I MUST fix it!
