3801 - black livery - Goulburn tour - October 1999

So elegant in her formal wear. I think this livery is much better than the green especially with the streamlining. Great food video.

The last time SP 4449 made a run through Montana here in the States, she had to have an Amtrak diesel hooked behind the auxiliary tender for "protection".

That's standard practice these days. The diesel is there to ensure that if the steam loco fails for any reason, the diesel loco can haul the train with the crippled steam loco back to the home base.

Also because run-around faculties are becoming rarer, the diesel having to lead on the way home.

@@neilforbes416 and that's what's great about diesels. They have their use to help steam engines.

@@Kanefan701 I'm not arguing. Recent Steamfest events held at Maitland, NSW here in Australia, when featuring the Garrat articulated loco 6029, each time she featured in a Steamfest event, it was 6029 that failed(and on the second day, Sunday, of the Steamfest weekend) and had to be pulled back to Maitland by a diesel. Though not all the steam locos had, or needed diesel locos as back-ups.
