Learn another style of Mosaic Crochet, made with Spike DC stitches for reversible projects! This technique can be worked in my COM technique, carrying the yarn across from the end of the row to the beginning of the next row, eliminating the ends (I demonstrate using this technique in the video). Or it can be worked in the traditional style of Mosaic Crochet with starting and ending each row, leaving tails at both ends of each row (to cover with a double border, weave in or turn into fringe).

I like the RevCom OR the LockStitch methods much better. Perhaps this method could be "thicker" for use on rugs and similar patterns? (I'm not sure) Which of those techniques do You PREFER for your own projects??
@TheCrochetArchitect
@TheCrochetArchitect Жыл бұрын
Great questions, Connie! I'm actually leaning towards using Spike SC now (with my COM technique to eliminate the ends on each row)! Both the Rev Com and Lock Stitch techniques give reversible projects, but the back side is the opposite colors as the front, not the exact image that's on the front, like the Spike DC and Spike SC. I've found that the Lock Stitch technique tends to make the project a little shorter than the Rev Com technique. Actually, with both the Spike SC and Spike DC techniques, you can either work a ch-1 (or ch-2) space wherever a Spike DC or Spike SC will be placed in the next row OR you can work a sc in both loops (or only in the back loop). There are so many ways to work Mosaic Crochet and it's fun to experiment with each of them!!! As far as thickness for a rug, as long as you're using a thick yarn (or 3 strands of worsted weight yarn held together), you should be fine. However, I'd suggest giving each of these techniques a try to decide what you like best. I think it's all a personal preference when it comes to Mosaic Crochet! Happy crocheting to you now and always!

would the spike dc work with longer areas of dc (something like 6 or 7 stitches)?
@TheCrochetArchitect
@TheCrochetArchitect Жыл бұрын
The spike dc should work in sections with many dc in a row. Because the spike dc is encasing the sc or chains below, it's seen on both sides of the work, not just the front. Your mosaic crochet projects will be reversible using the spike dc! Happy crocheting to you, Beth!

Yes you can! Just make sure you work a ch-1 in the row below your spike stitch.

Hum, reversible mosaic crochet sounds amazing ! I'm wondering why you use a spiked double crochet. Wouldn't a single crochet work better ? Doesn't the DC create some irregularities ?
@TheCrochetArchitect
@TheCrochetArchitect 2 жыл бұрын
I've done some reversible mosaic crochet with a spike sc, as well. I just haven't gotten around to making a video for it! Each stitch has a different look. The spike sc has less strands than the spike dc, but works just as well. I haven't found any irregularities with the spike dc, since there's only 1 row in the contrasting color, not 2, like in Inset Mosaic Crochet. This Spike DC method incorporates some aspects of Overlay Mosaic (like 1 row of each color, all worked as RS rows) and some aspects of Inset Mosaic (like working in both loops and working a ch-1, skip 1). It's pretty cool! I almost like the WS better than the RS!

I think there is a setting in each video that you can control to automatically translate the English subtitles to Spanish. Creo que hay una configuración en cada video que puedes controlar para traducir automáticamente los subtítulos en inglés al español.
