Thanks for another ride along and the comments you and the engineer provided describing the line, stations and other trains. It is great to see the view from the front window where we usually don’t get to see.

I lived in Hyde Park from 1975 to 2012 - there used to be four tracks, with track 4 being the furthest to the left. When they rebuilt the line from 1979 to 1987, this track was removed and the rebuilt platform was made out of Track 4. The current Track 4 and 5 is now considered the Needham Line - Track 5 is the single track between Roslindale Village and Needham Heights (with two side tracks outside of West Roxbury and Needham Heights) and Track 4 is the inbound track towards Forest Hills and also the side tracks outside of West Roxbury and Needham Heights stations, usually used to let other trains go by. Before 1979, the trains ran on an embankment between just outside of Forest Hills to around Northeastern University, and descended through a trench until it reached old Back Bay. The Orange Line operates in the embankment that ran the commuter rail trains; right around Roxbury Crossing you can see part of the old embankment.

I love how "Ham and Eggs" mentioned how you couldn't get parking at Forest Hills and said it's usually the reason why railfans stay away from that station. Me and my friend managed to find one at that station in March. We had a great time railfanning there. A lot of great action!

wow they don't even have to wear boots? It seems like engineers for MN, LIRR and Amtrak are required to. I like how locomotive engineers here in the states aren't required to wear uniforms. I remember seeing a LIRR engineer in a biker jacket and jeans as if he was going to a bike club meet after his shift lol

Howdy….! Watching the video and I am about 15 minutes and between 35 and 50 seconds… you mentioned that “good speed can be had up around New Haven” I could be mistaken, but is this not where your turbo train broke the record, which it still holds that record today….we had the turbo up here, travelling between Toronto and Montreal….
