He's still the best ever in my book...just had a bad night after so many perfect practices. We'll still keep him. Brian is ours! USA!

30 years later, and I can still recall how shocked and sorry I was to see Brian miss his triple axel- double toe combination. He was such a superb technician on the ice and rarely missed his jumps ; I guess even the great ones have a off night.

Brian had his moment in 1988. He made a ton of money as a professional and one of the few US winners in Calgary, He should have left well enough alone.

Oh boy. Who made you the god who decides what someone should or shouldn’t do with their lives? Ridiculous statement.

I do not understand the arms above the head in the jumps.

Brian Boitano created jumps with one arm over the head. It is now called a “Tano,” after Boitano.

They were not let him win a second gold medal anyway.

Brian was always known for having one of the strongest Axels around.

He had those bum knees. He should have been allowed to compete in 1992.He would have easily won but the judges would never let him.

I've had trouble finding a video clip of the medal awards ceremony for the men's figure skating event at the 1994 Winter Olympics at Lillehammer. There are plenty of videos of the individual competitors, but none of the medals ceremony that I can find. I thought that I had seen such a video clip a little while ago, but can no longer find it. I know that Alexei Urmanov (USSR/Russia) came first, with Elvis Stojko (Canada) second, & Philippe Candeloro (France) third, but I'd still like to see the video of the medal award ceremony.

I'm confused... They always mention that you can't do an "extra added element," but isn't that how Oksana beat Nancy? I know she threw in a triple after doubling something earlier in her LP... Can someone familiar with the ins-and-outs of competitive skating explain? I miss Scott's commentary!

there are no required elements in the LP. it's a free skate and you are judged based on all the elements that you did. the only thing that you cannot do in the LP is repeat a jump without doing it in combination.

In the Short Program, where there are strict requirements, if you miss a jump pass, that's it. You are only allowed one chance to perform it. If missed, you can't perform it again. In the Long Program, the requirements are different: the one in question was a required 2-jump combination. Oksana wasn't able to perform the 2-jump combination during the 1st minute as planned, so she remembered to make her final 2Axel jump into a 2 jump combination (2A-2T) in order to avoid a mandatory deduction in the Technical Merit score.

Wrong, there were requirements: one 2-jump combination, 8 triples maximum allowed (with only 2 different types of triple jumps can be repeated), 4 sets of spins, 1 set of footwork, 1 set of Moves in the Field..it's to ensure that skaters have a well-balanced program.

I don't doubt the 'Tano arm-aloft makes a jump tougher but I prefer the look of a traditional jump... Guess that's why it's a sport and not an art though

I've never cared for his Axel takeoff....it's almost like when he goes to step forward he cheats by starting to revolve early...I dunno.
