Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - 1984 World Figure Skating Championships, Ice Dancing, Free Dance - Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean of Great Britain won the Free Dance with a total of 13 - 6.0s, one more than what they received in Sarajevo. They easily won the Gold Medal.

In any given sport there are individuals who have changed the course of a match. Such people like Sir Ian Botham in 1981 when England looked to be on course for losing an Ashes match but turned out to an Ashes winning victory; or Seve Ballesteros on the golf course; or Pele at his brilliance for Brazil but never has there have or will ever be a better ice dancing partnership than Torvil & Dean who danced with precision and pure technicality in the sport of Ice Figure Skating.

Both still amazing, we never got our wedding, lol, but they are still close and best of Friends and are currently working together, on Dancing on Ice 2018 on UK TV. Both now nearly 60 , Jane looks amazing, but Chris , is just one hot dish now.

I agree with John regarding the 1981-1984 US figure skating team. Those four years saw the US contend in all four disciplines. No other US 4 year era had that consistency.

Well, I performance I can actually somewhat see. I still have no idea why someone hasn't found a way to put up a decent quality video of their Olympic performance, but this was a treat to see since it was a completely different routine.

In the age of VHS, you're only to get, at best, 360p. And many people recorded at the slowest speed to maximize the videotape (6 hours of recording time vs. 2 hours at the fastest speed, and at that speed, it will be lesser quality than 360p. Videotape players then averaged about $500-$750, and tapes then were still around $8-$10 each

If I recall, Kim Takal recorded a 1080p version of Jayne and Chris' Bolero at Sarajevo 84, on his olympic film. I believe you can find this on the '100 years of Olympic Films' boxset. Personally, I like this Bolero better than the Olympic version, yes theres a difference, a few pieces of choreography and some things Chris does. When you watch the Olympic one 1000 times you pick up easily the pieces where it could've all gone wrong. Off the top of my head I know there's 3. Still the best skatng piece I've ever seen either way and it's because of them I've become obsessed XD

Этим выступлением на чемпионате мира 1984 г в Оттаве Джейн и Крис завершили свою спортивную карьеру. Достойный финал блестящего олимпийского сезона. 4-ая золотая медаль чемпионов мира. И уже Олимпийских чемпионов На Криса без улыбки не посмотришь. Спасибо,что сохранили запись.

Mauve Dreamer they kind of deliberately left that question unanswered for a while back then--i kind of wonder if they hadn't entirely ruled out the idea at that time, though the claim they only "dabbled" in that thought briefly in their earlier years even before this. But they admitted later that they did like keeping an air of mystery about it. You hear the way he answers the question about it by saying "that's for us to know." He didn't say that defensively, like "none of your business"--he was smiling as he said it, so kind of an implied "and for you to find out" on the end of it--intentionally keeping up the mystery.
