A truly unforgettable routine, where sport transcends into art and emotion. So many iconic moments from this dance are emblazoned on my memory... the subdued beginning... the intensity building... the spectacular end pose. Apart from the Torvill & Dean Bolero, this is the only ice dance that has made a lasting impression on me. Ever.

It's great opinion, Willem. I agree with you from the first to the last word. "...sport transcends into art...". To this sentence can not be anything to add. These are really unique moments in sport. T&D, D&D - greatest memorable couples. All the best for you.
@joannagaja26612 жыл бұрын
It’s because this routine was created by C. Dean :) he made it memorably and transcendent, as their Bolero was, and as all the routines he created before and after, and danced with Jayne :) and he danced this theme too, (in a bit different way, as in the first part of choreography he adapter for Duschesnay) with Jayne of course, you can find it on KZbin ..

Stunning choreography. Dean's work is genius. I watched Torvill and Dean perform Missing and saw mention of the Duchesnay pair skating the number. That brought me here. My mother used to say eat your vegetables before dessert. I never could get that right.
@DawnDavidson2 жыл бұрын
Yes! I came here from the mention in the T&D version. I agree that the Duschenay’s performance was less technically perfect than some of T&D’s. They weren’t as perfectly in sync, for instance. But I loved the increased tempo in the Duschenay version, and the passion they displayed, along with the additional lifts (both of these to accommodate various requirements in the amateur competition, I’m sure.) The increasing tempo along with the choreography and the passionate skating really ramps up the sense of anxiety, which I think makes this performance rival the original T&D version. It’s extremely effective in portraying the message. So grateful to be able to watch these performances here on KZbin. Simply stunning. Thank you to this channel for posting these. They are treasures.

I don't care how many medals of which colour a skater has collected and how many years they've been touring. I just love this passionate, moving performance, it's captivating and touches my heart. The Duchesnays were the perfect skaters for this theme, IMO. They conveyed the emotion, that's why the audience always responded so enthusiastically to their performances. It was a great time for ice dancing, then in the early 90s.

Extraordinar!!!!

I've been a figure skater in the past...have watched this sport improve over the years on TV ever since (over 20 years now) and to this day I still think these folks were and still are the best ever! Not to take anything away from today's great skaters but Paul and Isabelle where just on a different level. So fluid in their moves, in congruity and continuity with each other while travelling accross the ice with great speed throughout the whole Choreography. You could feel the emotion of their theme coming through Paul and Isabelle like no other, this from the beginning until the end of their routine. They were always pleasant to watch to say the least, even to people unknown to the figure skating world. I really miss them, and their dancing style!
@storrada110 жыл бұрын
I often read that Russian skaters were technically better than Duchesnay. I agree, but...I remember many names of Russians skaters but I don't remember any of their dances. Dance is not a technique but great ability to convey feelings. Besides the Russian danced as if they wanted to save the world with their dance. Duchesnay just danced, with passion, fire and heart. They wanted to tell something the audience and they said. By the way - Mr Paul Duchesnay was (and is) the best-looking skaters of all skaters. He seems to be very humble, pleasant and sincere person. I wish him all the best in his life. Torville & Dean are the best. Duchesnay are right behind them. Then....nothing. Thank you Isabelle and Paul.

They wanted to use Art and their political freedom to say something about The South American Military Dictatorship (Junta) - lots of people just disappeared, were murdered or were imprisoned for no good reason. They skated with their hearts and that's why it's so compelling. To me, this routine is saying that there is still beauty, culture and innocence in South America and that these people deserve to be remembered ... And I love how she skips like a deer at 1:42

Most of the disappeared were people under 30; very sad. This is my first time watching this wonderful couple and it brought tears to my eyes. I was a teenager myself when this horrible things happened in South America. I can say I survived two dictatorships (Chile and Argentina). Hugs and peace from Canada.

This dance, to me, is still the all time best, beating even the Bolero. Genius in both choreografie and performance. Chapeau!!!!

I have looked for this and them for years on KZbin. I kept spelling their name wrong. Then this popped up in my suggestions. What joy. They were memorable obviously. They captured my attention 28 years ago. Thank you for up loading
