My wife and I have never been travelers, we've wanted to be Travelers, but we much prefer staying home. This decision has worked out for us nicely as we have access to beautiful Slovenia right here! We live in Kennebunk, on the coast of Maine in the U.S., and Slovenia in winter looks EXACTLY like winter in Maine. (Jesus, we're saving Gobbs of money!) I met Eddie the Eagle, a really nice person. When he wasn't ski jumping he worked in the building trade, he was plastering a wall when we met on a building site. He was a much better plasterer than a jumper. Absolute legend.

Emily's baby blues when driving through the snow were amazing. Cross between fear, joy and amazement! Sometimes plans go wrong and work out being much better. Beautiful video. I hope you both return to Slovenia, it's our favorite country in Europe. You have to visit Triglav National Park, BLED, Bohinj and Kranjska Gora which is the most beautiful ski town. Also the surrounding villages are stunning as is the journey from there to the Dolomites. Also the Vrsic Pass from Kranjska Gora and dropping down to the South of Slovenia will blow your minds. Absolutely beautiful country, beautiful people, we can't wait to get there in our new camper.

lol, you girls make me laugh, just a quick heads up incase you are not aware, there should be a cover, covering up the underside of your engine completely, this helps protect your engine from all sorts of nasties, including the nasty corrosive road salt, damage from stuff flicked up off of the roads and helps keep general crud off of it to help prevent things like tensioners, and pulleys and belts from damage and seizing up ! the good news is you can buy them online from companies like autodoc, or even citroen, if you do, be sure to get the fitting kit too !! the cover comes in 3 parts, left, middle, right side ! hopefully that will save you from a few horrors in the future, ( the Sump is especially prone to corrosion). safe travels !

One thing you can do is boil the biggest pot of water, and pour it back in the watertank, and emergency drain the gray somewhere, the batterys are inside, as long as it is not freezing in the garage, theu are just fine. and you also have the possibility to open the door under the bed to get some varm air back there

Well, you'd have a surprise if you were here this past wednesday ... at 15.00 it was 14°C, and at 20.00 it was snowing. This morning, 3 days after, it was -8°C and since two days, even with strong midday sun, it never climbed much above 0 ... On dec 31st, we were having coffee in the afternoon in short sleeves, and it was warm as spring for two more days. Now its freezing ... Oh, and you've met celeriac. It's edible raw also, the french use it for a special entree, the celeriac remoulade. That kit is actually sold as a stock kit, but as it seems, can be used in stews also. Regarding bears, they are hybernating in winter, hard to meet one at this time of year ... As for the plaque, if you haven't got info on that grim affair so far: it's a memorial for a person (Alojz Grozde) killed during WWII, by a partisan reccy. He was, possibly falsely, accused to be an italian occupators/kwisling spy and courier by the partisans, because he had several italian occupator travel permits (he was visiting family on that trip) and some religious literature on him at that moment. He was a member of the local Catholic Action, an anti socialist and anti liberal organization. It is argued that he was carrying a letter by an unknown person to the Mirna parrish priest (a village on his trip), requesting information on local partisan movements. In light of this alleged letter (which apparently he didn't know anything about the content), he was accused to be a slovenian kwisling courier and spy by that partisan reccy, and questioned, possibly tortured, and killed. It was never proven that he indeed carried such a letter. He was beatified and canonized in 2010 by pope JP II, I think. The plaque marks the place his body was found.

Like you, the first time we went to Slovenia we were totally amazed at how beautiful it is and so CLEAN!! For such a small country it's got something for everyone - from a Mediterranean-like coast, the Alps and huge areas of forest. And of course it's famous for its BEARS. So love your vlogs, so entertaining, we always look forward to them. Got a suggestion regarding the cooking, apart from the slow cooker that someone mentioned. Featured on the narrowboat channel 'Making New Memories' was a thermal cooker, and we subsequently bought a French version (Siméo) as we live in France. You initially cook your stew, or whatever, for a few minutes and then just drop the whole container into a well insulated outer body. The food continues to cook in it's own heat using no energy whatsoever !!! Because it keeps the food hot you can go out and then come back later to a ready made hot meal whenever you want. Brilliant. Ours goes into our caravan whenever we go away. Keep up the good work, love it.

Assuming the batteries are inside the van you can charge them safely, you're probably keep the inside above freezing anyway. Decent lithium batteries have low temp protection so will stop charging anyway automaticly. While in Slovenia, drive from Kranjska Gora to Bovec, Soca river is awesome!

Very late to the party but Em being so uncomfortable in the “snow” was a hoot. Beautiful snow and clear roads…that’s a treat for me! That’s a pretty tame road where I come from LOL! But Fanny did you proud and you had a bit of an adventure….it doesn’t get better than that! I do suppose it’s more daunting coming from the UK where snowy forest roads and low temps just aren’t the norm. In Chicago that’s a beautiful spring day and folks would be out in a light jacket. Just kidding of course!

Hi, ladies and AJ and Summer. Celeriac. And the vegetable mix is not for stew (eventhough yours ... sorry Emily's ... looked pretty yummy). It is a vegie mix for a traditional Sunday lunch for "goveja juha" ...clear beef soup. You put all the vegatables in the big pot (just cleaned. in whole, not sliced) together with a piece of beef (or sometimes half of hen) add water and cook for 2-3 hours. Sunday lunch consists of soup, meat is eaten separately with roasted patatoes and a bowl of green salad. Vegetables from the soup are very often thrown away (depends if you like cooked vegetables), the remains of the soup is eaten during the week as entree to some other dishes. Great views , just a tip snug pack make a sleeka jacket that most army guys use to buy as extra to their kit , its not fashion friendly but i have used it it in - 15 packs up really small , they make a army version jacket and trousers version , it really makes a difference in the cold .

Bears were probably hibernating in December so you were pretty safe anyway even if one had moved into that area. When you get to Romania if it's warmer weather take a drive up the Transfăgărășan where you're very likely to see bears but it's illegal to feed them. There is a bear sanctuary (orphaned cubs, bears recovering from injuries etc) which can be visited accompanied by an armed ranger. It has hides where you can watch the bears in safety.

@@campervibe That's what the sanctuary does. A ranger takes visitors to the hides, puts food out for the bears and you then sit in the hides and watch the bears tucking in. Remind Emily that the fruit and vegetables are strictly for the bears though!
