Van life in Norway continues this week, but there's one thing that's forcing us to change our plans!
Norway is definitely one of the best countries in Europe that we have travelled to in the van so far, we've been on some amazing hikes, seen some awesome waterfalls and really got out and about in nature, so, it was time for a bit of city van life with a trip to Bergen!
Bergen is Norways second largest city and sits on the west coast, with its colourful wooden buildings it really is rather pretty (and just a little bit wet!)
We also get into the Norwegian spirit with a visit to Viking Valley, an open air replica of a traditional viking village.
We are thoroughly enjoying our time on the west coast, but there's something that's really slowing us down.. what would you do?

Nope. Norways most dramatic scenery is generally considered to be the fjords. Which are, naturally, by the coast. The inland areas are somewhat higher up in places but generally much flatter. People expecting Switzerland style mountains or whatever will be very dissapointed!

At least you had good weather ! , when i visited the waterfall a couple of years back it was pouring it down with rain . It rained that much it created waterfalls going along the sides of fjords pouring onto the road where there arent any waterfalls !

Geilo, Ål, Gol are very traditional norwegian landscapes with several old buildings and churches. Beitostølen is a winter heaven, used during the cross country cup. If you go that route Jotunheimen national park is a great place for walking. A bit to the east is Rondane another great national park. If you choose to go east instead of north to Beitostølen, you can go through another traditional valley with Gålå, Fåvang and Ringebu. Ringebu Stavkirke might be worth a visit. If you manage to get that far north Røros is a traditional miningtown on the UNESCO list. It's a well known destination. There is a lot to see east of the mountains as well, just as much as on the west coast, but the nature is more green valleys and high mountains with glaciers and old wooden buildings and traditional arts and crafts. If you want to see Lillehammer perhaps you should take a look at the lake Mjøsa, it's norways biggest inland lake. Good luck on your tour, and I hope you get more sunshine.

We had a summer holiday in Norway about 20 years ago. We took our Land-rover Discovery (ferry from Newcastle). That Norwegian ferry and the walk-behind waterfall were part of our trip too.

Yep! Cats do not walk like dogs! I have two that I have leash trained and they demand their daily walks now! So great to have them climb trees, chase lizards and birdies and learn how to “cat”! So much fun for this owner too although it does require a lot of patience because of all their exploring!

As a lover of snacks here are my suggestions: ice cream is a dessert. Ice pops are hydration. The cupboards should be divided by person. All snacks are not created equal. At very least the categories should be: chips, cookies, chocolate, almost healthy and other. Emily should be allowed to replace by category. If Emily finds a snack that can only be find in a place on your travels, that is not a snack, it is a souvenir. If Emily finds a snack much cheaper in a country that is visited, it is not a snack it is a bargain. Note to Louise, random gifts of snack are more romantic than flowers. Hope this helps you Emily.

@@campervibe nearing 60 yo I have had many snacking years to hone my snack theories. I will be joining vanlife this fall in US. I have 3 deep lined bins behind the passenger seat. Tea (my home first 17 years requires this) Coffee (which is my drug of choice ) and, snacks. I find bins are easier to cram things into. Happy trail and keep on snacking.

I went all around the med when I was just a kid and I didn’t really take it in, don’t get me wrong I had a fantastic time, then in Europe with my parents, after leaving school I joined the military and only got to go to one place and that was when we had a punch up with the Argentinians suffered severe injuries and that was my lot with them, I’ve been a warehouse worker,lorry driver, security guard all of which were not that well paid, I have my own house and vehicle lost both my parents in the past few years and would dearly love to do what you do, but health and finances are not willing so I follow you and a few others who are van lifing it around the UK and Europe and enjoy life through your little adventure’s, so when I say enjoy life to the fullest you had better or I’ll kick your arses,well I would if I could but can’t, keep up the great work ladies and enjoy 😊

You could have put the van in a ferry like Hurtigrute In Bergen and sail straight to Bodø. It take circa four days from Bergen to Bodø in a boat/ferry. You then could drive the entire way south on the way back... or go straight to Kirkenes if you wish to go all the way north. Best way to escape the rain.

@@sroberts605 yes, the ferry I’m talking about takes vans, buses, trucks etc and passengers... in the past, it used to be the main route of the transport of people and goods to the northern most part of Norway. The boat will stop in every big port along the way. The ferry/boat departs daily from Bergen to Kirkenes and takes seven days to reach Kirkenes which is very close to the very top of the Norway territory. Check the map to see the distance I’m talking about.
