I have watched your video on making 3D blocks cutting board. Really enjoyed it. I like the way you explain what you did at each step. Also, the end result of your board was beautiful. At the 4:10 mark in the video where you cut the angled strips, could you tell me how thick you cut the strips. Thank you.

The clamps are Damstom Panel Clamps, good luck finding some for sale though. I googled for 2 days to find the name of them and then spent another few days trying to find any actually for sale online. It appears they went out of business and now there is only overstock left. The worst part, they were affordable.

Love the way this put together vs cutting bunch of 60 Degrees Diamonds. I believe that there is a bigger chance of errors for not fitting perfectly if using 60 Degree Diamonds, what to you think? I think if any errors made during cutting the boards in the exact angle, the error will not be noticeable, as all Pieces will fit together regardless, then the error may be visible as the angle may be off by fraction of degrees. I don't have the right Table Saw to try this, But once I get access to a nice Table saw, Planer, like to give this method a try. Thanks for sharing.

Music is often subjective but can also add or subtract from the overall experience. Without wishing to jump on the band wagon, this music was a little distracting causing me to have to mute the sound, then back on to listen to you talking. Having said that I really loved the end product, I think it’s so magical how carefully coordinated cuts and placement can give such a spectacular illusion. Great work.

Great end result but sadly video isn't up to par. There was a huge pile of glued boards and the next take it's a 30 degree triangle running along the sled? how did that happen?. Like planing? jointing? sizing? all that was lost?. That's like the gist of the video if you ask me (then again you didn't, just commenting as an user).

this is such a cool design thank you for sharing this ! i would like to make one for my son and actually have just done a practice one but just out of pine ,oak and cherry scraps i had. made the sandwiched boards 10 mm pine and 20 mm oak and one of 10 mm pine and 20 mm cherry. started those as 8 inches wide and 12 inches long "sandwiches" now just did final glue up and have a board 16 inches long 5 inches wide and 1.5 thick. I guess it does not look too bad for a first try. i do have a question though. If i would like the next board (the one for my son) to be 15 x20 and 2 inches thick what should size of boards be to start the "sandwiches" . I know it should be easy to figure this but just having trouble wrapping my brain around this haha. Thanks

@rbwoodcreations1039
@rbwoodcreations1039 6 жыл бұрын
Agreed, MTM Wood is an inspiration for me and really the reason I got into making these. I use the short fence for a couple of reasons, which I'm sure is the same for others. #1: When making multiple repeat cuts, it keeps the previously cut piece from being wedged in between the fence and the still spinning saw blade, reducing kick-back possibility. #2: Sometimes the actual fence goes out of square to the saw blade. Not a big issue with a cut or two, but when cutting one panel 20 or 30 times over, that small percentage of a degree can quickly add up to 3-5 degrees or more by the time you get to the final strips being cut out of the panel. Not usually a big deal, but with end grain cutting boards, that means that although all of the shapes will be aligned on the top surface, the bottom of the board's shapes will be slightly out of alignment and sometimes break the pattern. With that said, I know the fence on my sliding table is true to the blade, so when each cut is made, the trueness of it is based off of the front edge of the panel being against the sliding fence so there's no chance of the rest of the cuts being off. The short fence really only serves as a stop block to ensure all cuts are the same thickness and to allow that extra space for the cut pieces not to get stuck in between the long fence and the spinning blade.Hope this helps!

Great video, but your music is annoying as hell. Caused me to turn off the sound. I would have rather had some verbal dialogue explaining more details of why or what you're doing. For instance, I didn't understand why you cut a 30 degree cuts on a bunch of strips and then cut the angles off on the table saw? Why? Again, great video, just needed more verbal explanation.
