You are clearly very talented and experienced with Blender. This might cause you to overlook the things that a beginner might not understand. Since this is a video targeted at beginners, I would like to mention to the frustrated individuals that cannot follow along with your key presses: 1. Space to search is not on by default in a new Blender 4.0 installation, go the Edit > Preferences > Keymap > Change "Spacebar Action" to Search 2. Tab does not bring radial mode menu by default. Under the 3D view options (also found in Edit > Preferences > Keymap) select the "Tab for Pie Menu" checkbox

This is a common annoyance in many tutorials where the UI or settings are customized and the KZbinr doesn't realize this. They just press things and do things without explaining what they're doing. @shpleegames thank you for pointing out these settings

Yeah and the workspace or what ever the views or panels/windows are called are not set up at all... I just installed it 1 minute ago and only have one big screen, not three. I guess I've got the scene, cause I see what looks like a camera and in a corner I see the axis, but no idea how to do the rest and it makes me wanna throw my laptop =')

At first: "Here's a tutorial for people that think tutorials go too quickly" Moments later: "Press E Left Alt Shift GZ to move V to separate and Left Alt Z to combine these vertices and go into layout to transfer these to the Y axis as you set the local to the outside frame. If you missed any of that, too late, I'm already moving onto the next step."

@@P4TCH5S I could recommend Imphenzia. His channel has a lot of stuff. He has a few videos concerning 3d modelling, along with rigging. He's just one person of many out there, and is about the only person off the top of my head. I generally bookmark a lot of videos for various tutorials. The above isn't terrible, but if I am not wrong, will run into problems with extra faces and such that might hurt rendering if you have a lot of this kind of work. I'm not a genius to this. I am very new to all this myself. I was taught in other places, the fewer extra (unneeded) stuff you have, the better. Also to say, this definitely is basics, not an all ecompassing tutorial of every aspect one might need to know based on what you will be using this model for. I don't beleive Imphenzia goes into that detail on his YT channel either, but then I've not looked at every single one of his many videos. I've not been lucky to find an all inclusive video package that explains everything unless it's directly tied to making demo/practice games which, if not require payment, largely are incomplete.

Hey! If you're a beginner/someone who hasn't used Blender in a while that's watching this tutorial and got to the part where he started UV unwrapping and painting the model, then first off - props to you for getting to that part but also, something important that he didn't seem to mention is that when you're painting the model, it is SO SO important to either pack your textures into the file (you can easily look up a very short tutorial on what that means/how to do that) or to constantly save the image with the UV on it to your device. This is because unless you do the former mentioned thing, if you only save your Blender file, you won't be saving the coloring you put on the UV and things will revert back into their default, uncolored state the next time you close and open your project.

For those looking to copy his setup from the start, you can set up the multiple window view by right-clicking on the gap between your viewport and the outliner and selecting "Vertical Split", then doing the same between those 2 windows and selecting "Horizontal Split". This way you can have multiple views set up.

It's a fantastic tutorial I love it but I have few concerns regarding Beginner Title and Mention I hate to break it to you but this is not a beginner tutorial, I am not talking biased, got feedback from "Real" Beginners (8 ppl) and they struggled a lot (specially in sculpting) instead of sculpting, why not keep it simple with edit mode proportional editing? More stuff but I believe just keep it minimal simplistic as possible, for me, that tutorial was super simple but just sharing primary research data just to let you know so you can improve videos more ^^ Anyways, nice tutorial. But yeah, you nailed it with how fastly to make really cool stuff haha keep it up!

This was a solid modelling introduction, I subbed like 2-3 mins in. The unwrap was perfect for these purposes, quick, simple, done. Then the last 3 minutes were straight to time-lapse speed, beginner lost... You even reposed to model, it's not complex, but again, beginner lost... It would have been better to demonstrate the block out for a few areas, showing how to hide and show areas to better paint or basic masking. At least that way as a beginner the model could be coloured basically. Then the window of materials just comes from nowhere, a link to your 'Blender 3D Materials Explained - Beginner to PRO' would probably help, but I think a quick and dirty video to setup and get up and running with your free pack would stop people bouncing off to end of this tutorial. To do this tutorial the viewer only needs to apply existing materials, there is a LOT of (good) information in 'Blender 3D Materials Explained - Beginner to PRO' but for someone that wants to follow this tutorial it's tmi... This is a great modelling tutorial! (with a 3 minute demo of texture painting and prefabbed materials at the end)

I agree, for beginner the video have flaws and I understand we blender veterans don't usually remember our beginners days and it's learning to teach as well. Your comment was on point and constructive and I commented in similar manner as well that his way isn't beginner as claimed by the title and mentioned. In short this is not a beginner level but somewhat like stage 2 level if there are 10 stages Plus I strongly disagree the use of shortcuts for beginner tutorials. But more precise to context approach is appreciable. Anyways critics always help creators to improve so I am happy you did Have a Fantastic day :)

I've been working on mine off and on for over a week. I agree, he does go pretty fast. While it's a simple character, I wouldn't necessarily title it as 'beginner' unless he was providing shortcuts before he does his actions. He does say like, "Ctrl + R" for bevel, but not for everything. I'd say be prepared to spend about 30 minutes on every 5 minutes of video LOL

I noticed part of why your model looks more professional than mine is neatness: it's important to not go crazy shifting things around too much in sculpt mode and relying on the "grab" tool too much because my mesh ended up with a lot of lumpyness. This affected the belt since it was copied from a lumpy and asymmetrical torso and make the buckle noticeably uneven as well.

Sure, here is the translation: --- I'm no longer a beginner. However, I'm very interested in how others use the tools in Blender. I'm especially curious about the use of Sculpt Mode. So far, I've never really dared to try it because I thought it required a lot of time and in-depth understanding to grasp Sculpt Mode. And, by the way, I also expected long computation times from the computer. But the way SouthernShotty used the mode for corrections here was great. And for me, modeling is now faster. My thanks to SouthernShotty for taking the time to share his workflow and knowledge.

As a beginner with about 5-10 hours, I had to give up on following this tutorial. I made it about halfway through after a solid 10 hours working on this. The screen layout with 3 windows is very confusing and complicated to follow what you are doing. You move through item sections, shortcut keys, and menus way too fast; even at 0.25 playback speed. I had to watch every section many times to get what you did, and I am still making errors I don't know how to fix. Lots of good techniques but I spent more energy following you than learning. I guess I need to find something simpler.

Very good tut, I just finished me little cat. I'm not a full beginner and have a wee bit of experience, so through some other help i added little planes with some transparent textures to make whiskers. It has somehow made it look more mouse-like, but that's okay, as now it's time to learn to convert it to armature and learn how to rig with it... *cracks knuckles*. I will say, a little bit more on the intermediate side than a full-blown beginner tutorial. But still good, as sometimes it's good to keep beginners(cough, me) on their toes, if a tutorial is too easy they don't learn anything :P

This is still too fast for someone who just opened the program for the first time. No explanation of the views you have, why they're helpful, how to set them up. The sequence of buttons G and Z to lock movement up is neat but isn't intuitive in the slightest to a beginner. I couldn't see enough to drag the sphere up from the axis so I had to figure out how to pan the camera as well and that was also not intuitive (and could have been avoided had the views been set up first). Now I'm only a minute in and wondering how things got scaled up in "edit mode"? What's that? The edit button at the top next to file? No. Right clicking? No. Thank god the buttons you're pressing are on the screen, as that's apparently tab and then s. Scaling that isn't remotely intuitive. What I thought would be a grab and drag motion just confirms it, apparently I'm supposed to *just* move it without clicking first and then click (grab) to confirm. If you have a tutorial for absolute beginners, maybe pin it to the start of the video? People get so used to software they have no idea what is and isn't intuitive to beginners. This isn't a shot at you, but at Blender itself -- I want a program I control like how a programmer would expect a user to rotate the camera and scale objects like in a video game. I'm not saying its universally standard to hold down right and move your mouse to rotate around a 3D space but it basically is. =/

Finished the modelling section! Really enjoyed this tutorial, would you consider doing a follow up for the rigging/animating? Edit: just doing the texturing now, mostly done but having difficulty impotring the stitch image into the texture mask, unsure as to how to get that in

Already got confused when he first entered edit mode and his object got engulfed in a square that allowed him full control of movement! I want to use such a tool, but I have no idea what it's called or how to get it. someone please help.

Subdivision modifier?

@@life.by.linus3D That was it! Thank you! I have a tendency of always applying my subdivision modifier without going into edit mode, so it was very new to me.

Well I was really excited for the texture part since it's one of the things that's really unique about your art, and also harder to learn than modeling... so I was pretty disapointed to see pretty much nothing about that ;-; Nonetheless it's a cute cat model

1:25 if you guys can't use the grab tool, but all the other sculpting tools work, go to texture (where the radius and strength bars are) and delete the texture that you have. the delete has an x icon

All the beginners here, focus on the workflow and methods used. And realize shortcut keys are a luxury once you've performed the actions enough. It will be difficult regardless. You can do it!

Hey dude! awesome tutorial but wow you go fast, I have a question though. Around 10:43 you have the triangles snap to the circle but mine isn't doing that for some reason. If anyone could lend a hand on figuring this one out, that be much apricated. Edit: Never mind, turns out it was because I forgot to switch out of edit mode!

Is there a reason why you use a cube and add a subdivision modifier in stead of just using a sphere to begin with?

If you find it too fast, you can slower the video in the settings ⚠️ Watching the Donut tutorial beforehand is recommended since this is for beginners - intermediate users who can already move around the interface and remember some hotkeys

How do you access Search feature? I am stuck at the first few steps because I cannot convert object to mesh. Its mentioned in the 1:08 mark in video. I hit space bar like the video shows, but it does not give me the Search option.

For those wondering why their edge loop selection isn't working, try double clicking on a line segment (in edge select mode). You can also find more selection options on the toolbar at the top, under Select.

Hi, good tuto ! I have two questions : 1) What is the process to export it to Unity ? 2) Is it okay to have multiple parts for game characters ? (I am thinking about animations, multiple meshes, draw calls...)

This is a decent tutorial but it doesnt very explain very well since its like the creator trying to catch a bus, too fast for those trying to learn from it, this is not exactly beginner friendly, cause an example you should hv mention how to place the reference, cause i bet only 5% of beginner know how to do it, try place the commands you use on the video, etc, alot could have been done, but still a decent tutorial.
