thanks for making a video about the disaster we had last year! it was truly unexpected, the schools and most of the workplaces were closed for 2 weeks for people to go help their families, and a tremendious amount of donations both money and supplies were made, but sadly its was not enough for those 60.000+ deceased people 😢 the main reason behind the massive amount of damage is that most of the houses in those parts of the country is filled with apartments and you can find shops on the ground floor often, and some people do cut the columns in order to open more space for their shop :/ also, most of the apartments had archicetural mistakes, bad quality rebars and stuff like that. may those who died rest in peace 🌹

This situation also exists in many other countries such as Romania, there’s large stores with open spaces at the ground level and not enough walls to support the columns. Your country went through a very difficult time and it still is… I hope that this simulation is a good incentive for people to understand the risks and encourage local authorities to be prepared and be proactive.❤️

Thanks for the video, makes these scales clear for many of us. I want to give a little feedback about the animation to make it better next time. - Istanbul doesn't have any canals or such small bridges. There are a couple of rivers nearby but they are not built around. - Palm trees are very rare in Istanbul. A more native tree would be sycamore or pine. - One of the first things to collapse in even minor earthquakes are the minarets of mosques while in this video they stay up until R7.0 as if they are made of rubber. Also, mosques do not swim 🙂 All these said, it is still a great movie, educative and all. Thank you.

Istanbul would be a total disaster in an earthquake with the potential of even being a way more worse and devestating than the Febuary 06/2023 earthquake that devestated Central and Southern Turkey and would have long lasting negative effects. Very scary.
