I admire your talent you must have been tooling leather for year's. I have a leather knife sheath I thought I would try and tool some sort of pattern on it. Watching a few video's is not going to get it there is a lot I have to learn a defiantly get some scrap leather to practice on! Love your feather pattern I want to do a "feather with a clover"
@bransonsgeneralstore2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I have been tooling for over 20 years, so don't get discouraged. Practicing on scrap leather is the best way to get better.

@@bransonsgeneralstore thank you for replaying yes I'm going to practice on scraps leather, right now I'm carving a rubber stamp and that takes a lot of time. I guess I made my rubber stamp drew to much detail so I'm challenging myself

i just have a blade and beveler can i make something out of it ?? i mean only two tool 😅 i am not professional but i like to watch leather carving and wana give it a try
@bransonsgeneralstore2 күн бұрын
I have seen leather carved with just a swivel knife. They are often called "swivel knife finesse" patterns. Logos, silhouettes and knotwork patterns can often be done with just a knife and a beveler. Also you can use a lot of common things to make impressions in leather. The edge of a spoon can be used as a modeling tool. Take a file to a bolt head to make a background texture tool. Basically anything that can be pressed into the leather can make some sort of impression.

To finish that would you darken under neath the feather?
@bransonsgeneralstore2 жыл бұрын
Most often I paint the feather. Put a couple of coats of finish on it to resist stain, and then antique stain to color the background. The antique will color the cut leather under the feather darker.

How would you finish this?
@bransonsgeneralstore3 жыл бұрын
I usually paint the feather with acrylic paints, apply a coat or two of clear finish like super sheen over the painted feather as a resist. After I let the finish dry all the way, usually over night, I use an antique stain over the whole piece. Then spray finish to seal the antique. The antique makes the paints look more natural and adds darker shadows under the feather as well as staining the background.
