The arm should be completely horizontal when the weight is lifted. Otherwise, your calculations will be too optimistic.

Interesting, yes that makes sense because at that angle all the weight of the lever is acting against it.

@@AaedMusa The torque is calculated by perpendicular force x length. If the arm is slightly down or up, the length becomes shorter in relation to the perpendicular force.
