What's a good source / discussion forum on how to learn to 3d print & fly my own quad copter drone? I'm particularly looking to build something with a ~3 pound capacity, FPV camera, etc. I need to learn more on how to choose the best motor / battery / ESC for the intended weight. Any advice?

Not only are the 3D specs incredible value but once you print your plane you can scale it up with a set of calipers to build it whatever size you like out of whatever material you like.

Think it is ironic that you have done a high visibility orange and gray printing job on it. This is the paint job used for trainers to make it more visible. (that way you can keep an eye on the newbies to make sure they don't fly into you). David Johnson (the highest kill count thunderbolt ace in Europe during WWII) brought his badly damaged P-47 home to crash land on an RAF fighter station. He had been chased a third of the way across France (and shot down four that day), when Johnson got out of his Thunderbolt and began counting the holes in the aircraft he quit counting after one side (over a hundred holes in the plane on THAT side)! German cannon shells blew the ammo box for his guns OUT OF THE WING (there is a picture on Johnson with is head/shoulders in the hole!) and the plane brought him back. He found corn stocks in between the barrels of his guns he was flying that low! A German shell blew one of the cylinders off the engine, but it brought him home! As Johnson was examining the damage the warrant officer responsible for the field can driving up to Johnson and started screaming about the damage to the grass field done by the flat main tire and shredded tail wheel! Johnson was stunned (probably suffering from what we would refer to as PTSD now) and replied that if the RAF could come up with a fuel truck and tire he would leave the field!

It's tailored for most small consumer 3D printers. Not everyone has a huge printspace like with a Creality CR-10 S5 (500x500x500mm) or my Tevo Little Monster (340x500mm). I wonder if it's possible to combine some STL files to create less parts to glue... ;-)

UncleManuel It is possible to combine STL. Meshmixer or fusion 360 are the first to come in mind that could do it.

Parts list (including remote)? I want to print this out at my local Library (which does printing) and I would like to build this as my first plane, as I love the p-47. Also, what is the sizing of the bed of the printer (in order to get scale). Or, is there a prebuilt, beginner and budget friendly p-47 out there that would be a better option?
@trentchristner66806 жыл бұрын
Flite has officially been tested... and approved. I agree, its a whole new chapter, it just stinks that printers (3D) cost so much. I might be able to talk my engineering teacher or my Media center worker into allowing me to print a few parts, but nothing on this scale. Great job flite test!

Unless you keep power output the same (in watts, e.g. lower the prop load and/or get a lower kV motor), you do not magically gain efficiency by going with the higher voltage. On the same prop/motor, the power system would draw way more current as the higher voltage would cause the motor to spin faster.

If you get the prusa i3 mk2 or mk3, man those things just go and the gcodes they provide with the plans are sliced already so you can just put it on the SD card, load filament and print. Saves all the tedious hassle of setting up the slicer, tuning just right to get the gcodes. And that machine just kicks ass prints non stop no problems out of the box.
@robertsvancovics17396 жыл бұрын

imagine these 3d printed planes were made of thick paper and aluminum tape. you could add the landing gears and bb guns to have a legit dog fight. like if you keep shooting a wing, it'l eventually rip off and crash the plane, OR if you're lucky still land it with one wing. and since it would be made of aluminum tape and thick paper, you could do field repairs with just aluminum tape. maybe you should make the ammo rack for the bb gun out of thin paper so that if it has too much holes in it, you'd lose ammo.
