Honestly answered a question I've had for some time now. My friend and I each have a P1, but I'm a firm believer in PETG and paint whereas he settles for AMS and PLA. At the end of the day, I can see it both ways. I like something like this to be pretty from any distance, not just a picture. Paint wins for me.

Personally, The raw 3D print looks great on Camara. However, I find that the painted version makes it look a whole lot better in person like Cosplay Events and Comicons. Also just knowing what paints to use for your cosplay to look more like the actual props or just better with your own design can be a bit challenging and sometimes just leaving it unpainted can work better for ya
@SamDunham

The painted ones definitely look better. Both look good, but the painted ones just look more finished. Also, on the mesh side of things, another option is the screens they make for frying pans to prevent spatter. If you look in my avatar photo, that's what I used for the Mr. Knight Moon Knight mask. Cheap, paintable, and easy to work with (and they look way more opaque in person).

That’s why i bought a PRUSA 2 yrs ago … 3800+ hrs of print time and i candy remember the last time I had to sand a print before priming. I print at .15mm by default and sometimes go to .10. Yes I can’t print helmets in one piece but I’ve build a full size Amban pulse rifle and heavy infantry tri barrel without issue. Speed doesn’t concern me as I’m not in production of things and the printer runs just fine in the middle of the night … “bambo stool the s/w from creality who stole it from Prusa … “. There’s a hint in there somewhere … lol

I respectfully disagree. As much as I agree the offset looked kinda cool too. I think depending on the colour as he pointed out in the video.. some look better with a matching mesh some don’t. I think the white on white on white looks better but the white on red didn’t. The black mesh that didn’t match also looked slightly better too

Im so happy you made this video. From day 1, I always approached my helmets from the mindset that i was going to paint them. (so i bulk bought whatever color filament was the cheapest, because the color doesn't matter when you are painting them). As silly as it sounds, i never really thought about experimenting with filament colors instead of painting.

Wow! the white painted version definitely looks way better than raw printed just because the texture on the painted version was much more clearly visible and prominent than the raw printed version. However if that level of detailing is not a concern, then yes, the raw printed version also looks superb and definitely saves a ton of time and energy because there is no sanding and painting.... Always love your videos... great stuff and awesome content... thanks for all the videos and the effort u put in to share your experiences.

@Starganderfish
@Starganderfish Жыл бұрын
The painted one had much clearer panel lines and seams and really made the helmet look more professional. Plus the metallic red eye frames are gorgeous of course. Curious why you didn't try to print the eye mesh or the eye "frames" on a resin printer? One of the best crafting methods is to use fast high quality FDM printers for the bulk parts and then use ultra-clean ultra high-resolution resin printing for the intricate details. Pretty sure the lenses would have come out great on a resin printer (though obviously, colour matching would be even harder!!) And finally, the top part/crown of helmets like this remain the biggest weakness of FDM printing. The visible layers lines and rough stepping as you reach the crown of the head is just unsightly. I was impressed to see how much better the textured helmets came out though - the differentiated surface really helped to hide the stepping. I'm eally wanting to pick up a Bambu to complement my resin printers and finally dump my awful Artillery Sidewinder. But I'm going to wait a bit longer and see how the rumoured X1E looks - fingers crossed its a bigger machine, at least 300-350mm!!

I know I'm late here. I'm really stuck between the K1 Max and P1S Combo as my 1st and only printer. (Unless I can convince the Mrs that a 2nd printer is beneficial) Max for volume and P1S for the AMS. Obviously, I will print helmets one day (mostly SW) but I may do fun projects too that may use the AMS. So, in terms of quality print, which is better? I guess quality is top priority. I noticed you don't get those rings on the rounded top (especially on the textured helmet). Is it a setting in the slicer? Maybe I missed it, but what type of filaments do you use for armors? PLA is enough? I have time to decide but for now top 2 again is the K1 Max and P1S. Lately the Sovol SV07 Plus came out and it's a 3rd of the price of the other 2. So now I'm thinking if a bedslinger is OK or do I stick with a CoreXY.
