If HueForge gets big enough filament makers might start putting TD on the package.

It wouldn’t be difficult for them to do either. With Polymakers involvement with HF, I am kinda surprised they are not already.

Sounds easy enough. This came up on a podcast with FilamentStories too

Was just coming down here to say. Would be cool if he could standardize his way of doing it so there would be consistent value across manufacturers, maybe even charge a small license fee

This will be a great addition to HueForge, especially if it can interface directly

For those saying just have the manufacturer print the TD value on the box, there can be slight inconsistencies between batches of the same colour filament (& even within the same spools, supposedly). So the benifit of this device is that you can get a new spool, open it up, snip off a length of filament & then you have the exact TD for that spool
@Daydreamworks339
@Daydreamworks339 Жыл бұрын
But won't it have the same amount of inconsistency between different segments of the spool itself?
@bonovoxel7527
@bonovoxel7527 Жыл бұрын
That's cool to know, thanks! I'll check back a color when I'll repurchase it. Though... I don't expect the TD to change of more than +-0,2 from a batch of spools to another if the company is solid and the product is known.

Yup, If this was true we'd have for sure that we are using a tolerance on TD, actually. It's unperceivably not constant, is a good hypotesis.@@Daydreamworks339

I love hueforge, it's brought something fantastic, new and very different to 3d printing! The only two things I wish it had is a mac version, but also a 'border' option as a lot of prints have 'pixelated' edges, maybe an option to stick a fixed 0.3mm solid border around items would help not only strengthen them but tidy up the edges a bit. I tend to do this manually but it's a bit of a TDous (ha) process.

I wonder if TD could be used for purge to infill applications, basically in reverse.
@ghostshadow1

That would be great actually. Possibly the end of giant purge blocks too.

Steve from HueForge already pitched using TD for determining purge as something he wants to look into. But he's a bit busy right now.

Very much looking forward to this coming out. Technically the models are around already, and I think some of the BOM is too, but the firmware is not going to be open source and isn't available right now. Also, he said it's like $10 if he made tons of them, but in terms of selling them, that's more buying the firmware so you'd have to self source, which will put it over $10. Just in case people are confused when they check the site and it says "$5-$15 for stl, bom, firmware" and then goes up to $65-$75 for preassembled.
@Rick-vm8bl
@Rick-vm8bl Жыл бұрын
Makes sense for it to go up a fair bit for preassembled as from the sounds of it it's going to be fairly labor intensive due to needing to solder by hand. I know places like PCBWay will do that for you but if its a case of needing to make sure specific components are used and not similar ones then its possibly not an option. Plus its obviously low volume stuff so the production costs do go up a fair bit. If you're all in on HueForge though $65-$75 isn't going to be an issue IMO.

TBX is the industrial term and is known as the standard opacity meter so you could monitor the filament colorant control to dose inline thru a gravimetric blender keeping an eye on the output and consumption for accuracy, not new and we always tested light tru plastics for 50 years at least so nothing new but this application but very kool and a good idea for sure but all this existed long before, but kudos for extracting it and applying it to FDM/FFF Cheers! fyi tip you can use ultrasonic sensor to monitor the gauge /layer height too then and maybe one for the filament OD too, both can have a profile plotted from them too.

This would be pretty easy for us to measure and put on our labels of our spools. Is the “TD-1” open source or purchasable? From the looks of it, it’s digital, so we could even do it on a PER-SPOOL basis instead of just a per-recipe basis

filament makers should just print this value on the box?
@McOldwolf
@McOldwolf Жыл бұрын
Having it directly interact with HueForge to simply stick some Filament in and add it directly to the library seems even more user-friendly than typing the values from the box :)
@Resyektt
@Resyektt Жыл бұрын
So if filament makers started just including this in their filament info, or a database was created for people to submit measurements wouldn’t this product become pretty useless? Like I know as of now it’s great, but long term I don’t see it being useful. Please correct me if I’m wrong because I really don’t know much about this hue forge stuff lol
