Thank you so much, this was very useful!! There not very many up to date videos on this right now. I have to have a model animated by tomorrow for class and this was a great tutorial.

Great tutorial, still works three years later. Only thing I'd add is that there is a Select Element tick box in the skin modifier, so there's no need to hide elements or polys in editable poly. Thanks for sharing this!

This is the best tutorial I've seen to get a good rig on your first attempt. I was struggling with the weight tool, understanding how it works but you explained everything perfectly.. Amazing tutorial!

So you've lost me on 24:21. See, I have a human body model available, but its not "one" block like yours. My model has a different part for arms, legs, head and so on. I couldn't just select everything and convert it to "Poly" like you did. I tried moving forward, but in the end, the rigging didnt work. How can I "join" all these body parts into one, like yours? Thank you.
@BitHalo7 жыл бұрын
Go to your modify panel on your mesh in the edit poly/mesh option and click attach and click the various pieces to attach them together. You can also optionally leave the pieces seperate and add the skin modifier one at a time on each piece!
@MauMenzori7 жыл бұрын
AND that solved it. Now its all one single body. THank you so much, mate. :)

Hey, i've just recently started learning bone animations for games, is it possible to have root bone that is higher in ierarchy than all other bones (so you move the root bone, and all other bones and entire skinned object move along with it), but all other bones can still move freely around the scene, so the root bone won't limit their movements? I'm asking that because I need to export animation file with root bone to be stationary at 0.0.0, and then i can distribute objects around the scene. If the root bone moves, and it's offset from 0.0.0 in the scene, the animation is broken in game.

Transitioning from Softimage and Maya, I have to admit this ready made, adjustable biped system in max is pretty cool. I have a question about standard practices tho: I've always been used to building bones / rigs from scratch, is it more common in Max to use this biped and modify? or Manually creating a full biped using the bone tools the norm?

This is very complete! Btw, I know this is a different topic, but what about adding IK's?
@bobdawkins74735 жыл бұрын
biped has IK's built into it. There is no need to add any IK's to a biped rig at all.

@TheDreamingangel285 жыл бұрын
@@BitHalo Do you have any videos on CATrig? I am using your tutorial because you simplified Biped rigging so well I can catch onto is easily. I have a feeling you could do the same with CATrigging. The video I was given in school didn't help me with figuring out CATrigging,so I switched to biped.

@academyofdesigntechnology67797 жыл бұрын
Make sure that the mesh is an EDIT POLY mesh and add a SWIFT LOOP . You can look up the command online, it will allow you to place another polygon ring where you want it , if that doesn't work select all the polys in that area and use SLICE PLANE
