If you have any suggestions please leave them here in the comments area. Another benefit of using an object with a target as a helper in the alignment is that the Helper object can be used to orient the part that is attached to the target to a distant target place without moving the object. For example, with the box I used in my video, I could've selected the Tape's target and moved it around, and by using Snap, the box can be oriented to where I want while it's still in its place. Also, if you like to support further this channel to create more tutorials and plugins for 3DS Max, please consider using the Thanks button under the video. Thank you :)

Why on earth I hadn't known THIS before??? Sometimes I get models which have been saved from NX or Solidworks and they are randomly rotated. Got ones today, started to think there has to be a better way to get them straight. This trick did the job and it was easy! BIG thanks!!

what about pivots how do you snap the axis to an edge and also orientate one of the axis to follow the edge, its a two point snap that i just cant figure out in 3ds max, seems like such a basic thing to do but a mission to figure out

Unfortunately, Autodesk wants you to buy some of their other products. There is a workaround for this, which is a stupid process for such expensive software. Anyway, I'm sure there are some scripts to perform these types of operations if you look around, but yeah it's ridiculous!

Thanks for the nice tip... I have a problem with perspective match, after saving a file and opening it again, vanishing lines lose their alignment and positions, that's not a big deal... the problem is that sometimes the scene objects don't react to the change in the vanishing lines when trying to return them to the right positions... and the problem is not consistent but it doesn't have a fixed scenario as re-aligning the vanishing lines is the first thing I do after loading the file
@MiledRizk5 жыл бұрын
Hi, i never had this issue, maybe because i don't use it extensively. Last week i did a project using perspective match with 3DS 2018 and didn't have a problem after closing and opening the file many times. But I'll try to do some tests when i have some free time and see. I'll get back to you if i find something.

Im just new to all this how do i even put the plane
@MiledRizk3 жыл бұрын
Hi, to add a simple plane, on the right side you have a panel that contains some buttons, the first one is Create, under it, you have the Geometry category, make sure the drop-down list is showing Standard Primitives category, click the Plane button, and in the Viewport click with the left button and drag when you satisfied with the result release the button, then right-click to turn off the Plane button. You can change the width and length of the plane, and other stuff, by making sure it's selected, and then click the Modify button next to the Create button.

But what about subobject mode? Is there a way to make this trick work with single polygons or even groups of polygons?
@MiledRizk Жыл бұрын
Hi, for now, and without any additional scripting, i don't see any other way then to detach these subject elements as separate objects, align them with this trick and attach them again to the parent object.

Great Thanks, but i believe there is a script that does this quicker/more easily without using the tape. I think its called 3 Point Allign
@MiledRizk5 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes i know about that script. But in case someone doesn't like to install an additional plugin. It's nice, sometimes, to be able to have more control on your software and hack your way around :))
