A very good point you're making, it makes sense to texture hero assets in SP, but for tons of environmental assets, this is a very smart and quick way of getting them done and still looks really good in the end. Thank you so much.

Attach the rivets to the barrel. If this is a game asset I would leave the separate, export them together and import into UE with combine turned on so that I still have them as separate pieces in Max if I want to make changes to them.
