The 2 things I have still haven’t delved into is Max’s creation graph and making my own plug-in. Would be nice to see MCG tutorials on KZbin and someone going thru the process of actually making a plug-in. I’ve taught myself max from the beginning and remember struggling back when there were no videos. Just a handful of written tuts online. Love your tutorials!

Very cool! Though at 2:09 I get a bit confused as I'm new to that Motion panel -> Assign Controller stuff. Anyone know a beginners tutorial or summary for what that is?!

It’s just a way to add a modifier like procedural noise for example so that an object vibrates/moves without key framing by hand. (Max’s noise controller) You can even use a sound file to drive a model of a speaker for a stereo using Max’s Audio controller. Very powerful feature in max that gets overlooked often. There’s even a expression controller so you can use math to control an objects parameters. I haven’t looked but I’m sure there’s some videos out there. Start with the noise controller because it’s pretty self explanatory and easy. You could add a noise controller to a camera to give it camera shake without keyframming by hand etc.

@@AutodeskFTW Oh, that sounds very cool! Thanks for explaining it. I got a lot of things in Max to explore but hopefully I will get around to this! I'd love to see a tutorial, but I've also been tempted to make some tutorials myself because sometimes I've used techniques that are faster than what I see in other people's tutorials ^_^

Great! Short. To the point. Understandable. You really make a good case for exploiting the procedural potential of Max. You have demoed a host of procedural workflows just using the standard Max modifiers, especially Array. It's very appealing and highlights Max's advantages over Maya. I wonder if you utilize MCG at all with your workflows. It arrived with great excitement and then seems to have been forgotten in the Max community at large.

@EbolaStew MCG is interesting bit the implementation has issues. At this point it is dead and will not see updates. I do use it some times for creating custom modifiers.

@@paulneale Hmm. That's too bad. Do you think Bifrost will find it's way into 3ds Max? I'm not even sure how much it is catching on in Maya.
@paulnealeАй бұрын
@EbolaStew it is in Max but just fluids and I don't think it will go anywhere as it is t that good under the hood.

3ds max will always be king! Has the most sensible UI ever. I’ve tried switching to Blender many times over the years but it’s UI is a mess. Started using 3dsmax in 1999 after using Gmax to model airplanes for Microsoft Flight Simulator and I’ve never stopped. It’s amazing how far it’s evolved. I remember being all excited when Splutterfish came out with Brazil renderer and how “real” images looked😂 Now it’s so easy to get realism with a few clicks.
