Awesome tutorial! Thanks for all the information. :) I'm tryring to make a logo on a box with thicker lines. The logo layer (on top side of the box) is 1mm thick and its part of the model, so I made a support blocker that covers only the logo but not the side of the box underneath. For this support blocker I set "Modify settings for overlaps" and via "select" button I added "horizontal expansion" and set that to 0.4. But when I slice the model, the logo is still without any changes. When I change the "horizontal expansion" for the whole model (standard way, not via "per model settings"), the logo gets thicker how I need it. In the basic form this logo contains some thin walls, so I need to have them a bit thicker, so they don't break off that easily and they will be better printed.

@3duniverseOrgWelcomesYou4 жыл бұрын
The best way to do that would be with the ChangeAtZ script. Extensions > Post Processing > Modify G-Code > Add a Script > ChangeAtZ. Set the trigger to "Layer No." and specify the layer you want the changes to happen at. Then select what changes you want at that layer. You can add this script multiple times to make changes at different layers.

Not with the method shown in this video, but you can do that using Extensions > Post Processing > Modify G-Code > Add a Script > ChangeAtZ 5.2.1(Experimental). You can add that same script multiple times if needed to make changes at different heights in the print. You can change retraction settings, travel/print speeds, cooling, and more.

is there a way i can omit printing of a model?
@3duniverseOrgWelcomesYou4 жыл бұрын
The only way I can think of would be to select the model and use per-model settings to change the flow rate to 0%. It would still "go through the motions" as if it were printing that model, but that should make it so that nothing actually prints for that part. Haven't tested that though.

@3duniverseOrgWelcomesYou Жыл бұрын
Yes! As of Cura v5.3.0, this functionality is still available. Select an object, then click the support blocker icon in the left-side toolbar, and a gray cube will appear on your object. Deselect your object and select only that new gray cube. Then go to Per-Model Settings in the left-side toolbar and choose the "Modify settings for overlaps" option and choose your modified settings there. You can move and resize that modifier cube as needed. You can also use other geometry as your modifier object if you want something other than a cubic region.

@3duniverseOrgWelcomesYou3 жыл бұрын
Just tried this, and it seems to work okay. Make sure you're using the latest version of Cura. Add a support blocker, size and position it as needed, then use "Modify settings for overlaps". Set it to "Cutting mesh" (not Infill mesh only). Set Wall line count, Top layers, Bottom layers, and Infill percentage to 0. That worked for me.

No, the "Spiralize Outer Contour" option is not available for per-model settings. But you can adjust the infill density, so for example, you could have 50% infill density at the base and 0% infill density at the top.

Hi I was wondering how I would print 1mm of my print with cooling on then the rest with cooling off?
@3duniverseOrgWelcomesYou4 жыл бұрын
Since the fan setting isn't available as one of the options for the method shown in this video, you'd have to use the "Change at Z" extension for that. You'll find it under Extensions / Post Processing / Modify G-Code. From there, add the "Change at Z" script. Set the fan speed to 100% (or whatever speed you want) in the print job itself. Then, in the Change at Z script, you can set the height to 1mm and set the fan speed to 0. That way, it will print the first 1mm with the fan, then no fan after that.

I wonder if you can change the layer height within the same model but in different regions. All I’ve seen is infill. In other words, I want to be able to print two different height settings on the same model, is this available in Cura?
@3duniverseOrgWelcomesYou5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, no. Only a subset of the settings are available for this feature. Since the object used for customizing settings may not cover an entire layer, Ultimaker chose to limit the available per-model settings to those that can easily be changed back and forth within a single layer. For example, changing the amount of infill from one part of a layer to another is not a big deal, but changing layer height in specific regions of a single layer is more difficult. The closest option available for this would be "Use adaptive layers" under the "Experimental" section of the settings dialog. This would apply to the entire object and would automatically adjust the layer thickness, using thicker layers for areas with less curvature and thinner layers for areas with more curvature. See our other video for details: kzbin.info/www/bejne/imeben-QZsZ_h7M

Out of curiosity and speed of repetition, could you copy/mirror the "support blocker" model and still change their respective settings, instead of creating 8 blocks from scratch?
@3duniverseOrgWelcomesYou5 жыл бұрын
Good question! Yes - you can right-click on your "support blocker" object and select "Multiple the selected model" to create as many copies as you like. Then the settings can be customized for each one using the "Per model settings" controls.

This is great stuff, but unfortunately for me, there is still no way to modify the layer HEIGHT locally.... at least not in Cura 5.2.1. I'd like to print threads in my part at a 0.12mm layer height and the rest of the model at 0.2mm AND still have them features where they are supposed to be and the finished part be the correct height. Anyone know how to do that? Another Slicer maybe??? I'm all ears on this one!!!
@3duniverseOrgWelcomesYou2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, layer height is one of those things you can’t adjust separately for different parts of a model in Cura. I would recommend trying the Adaptive Layer Height setting. That will use a thinner layer height where there are angled surfaces (i.e. those threads) and a thicker layer height elsewhere.

@3duniverseOrgWelcomesYou5 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you might not have your customization cube properly selected. Or maybe your object and customization cube are both selected. Try clicking outside of your object to make sure it’s deselected, and then click on the customization cube to select it. Then you should be able to customize the settings for where that cube overlaps you’re object.

Then resize and reposition that block as needed. Then select that object and use the Per Model Settings option from the left side toolbar, choose "Modify settings for overlaps" and then click "Select Settings" to choose which settings to customize.
