A great thing indeed with 3D printers is that the toolpath generator/control software is independent of the machine and not like with say laser/waterjets integrated into the machine firmware/control system and thus propertiary to that particular machine. That means that as long the printer understands the g code commands themselves and have the required mechanical precision it can be updated indefinitely with new features as they are part of the slicer and not the machine firmware. Also in case that the printer firmware might need an upgrade it helps that this firmware (Marlin/Klipper) is also open source.
@alerey43632 жыл бұрын
that's not true at all; utlimaker cura works only with their own list of "supported printers", which is extense but by no means complete, because there are a lot of diy-printers that don't work in cura; in fact you can see these complains in lots of 3d printing forums, ranging from cura not recognizing the printer via usb to printing going nuts (weird noises from motors, sensors not acting to stop head, etc)
@OddlyIncredible2 жыл бұрын
@@alerey4363 I have a completely scratch-built 3D printer of my own design, which is about as DIY as it gets, and Cura 4.13 works just fine with it - I duplicated the default material (generic) and machine profiles and customized them to suit, and the resulting G-code prints just fine. In fact, I have a print running right now that I sliced with Cura. Now that having been said, I am ONLY using Cura to slice models and nothing else - I'm uploading G-code to the printer via STFP over SSH, and not through Cura's USB uplink, as my printer has a Raspberry Pi running Klipper in it and functions completely stand-alone.
@alerey43632 жыл бұрын
@@OddlyIncredible if your printer deviates from Ultimaker's line of printer it can be a nightmare to make it work with cura (and there are A LOT of variables to tune in that case, from software in the firmware of the controller, the controller type itself to hardware aspects like type of extruder, reductions, motor type, hotend, etc). I had to resort to Kisslicer which, while not at as "nice" as cura, works perfectly with my diy-reprap printer

2:14 So why can it slice the chimney at 10% but not at 15% scale?
@zapl802 жыл бұрын
It's filling the small hole in the chimney and therefore considers it a solid cylinder which is thicker than the minimum line width when small enough. Slightly larger and it sees it as a tube with walls that aren't thick enough to print. You might get this to print on v4 by enabling 'print thin walls' which also prints with a line width below standard. Alternatively, increasing the small gap fill size to print it as a solid cylinder
@rondlh202 жыл бұрын
2:20 At 15% the chimney is missing, but at 10% it is there, quite odd. Cura 5 offers great improvements for me when printing round objects

@tHaH4x0r2 жыл бұрын
This is actually an excellent improvement for the things I do. I generally work with a lot of thin features and flexures. Especially when thin flexures are at an angle slicers can do funny stuff (suddenly have 3 walls at some points of the flexure, some other points 2 walls etc). Generally flexure thickness is limited by the wall thickness, so I hope this new slicing feature will also enable me to print thinner flexures.

As for M1 "support", based on developer feedback to people mentioning that the binary is still Intel, it sounds like by support they mean "it works", not that they have an ARM binary in their plans. I expect they'll get around to it eventually, but it doesn't appear to be what they meant.
@BrunodeSouzaLino2 жыл бұрын
M1 Support == We managed to get it working with Rosetta. The only people caring about M1 Mac support are companies that have a large Mac userbase. The vast majority of 3D printer users are on x86 platforms, mostly Windows. It makes no sense to port and maintain an entire branch of software for such a small number of users.

@3duniverseOrgWelcomesYou2 жыл бұрын
While there are settings to control certain aspects of this, the basic function of variable line width that was discussed in the video is handled automatically by the slicing engine. If you just take an object and slice it with default settings in Cura v4.13, then slice with the same settings in Cura 5.0, you should see the difference without using any special settings.
