Great tutorials for young upcoming welders unlike other KZbin welders who hide their techniques so they can hold welding 'seminars' and sell their techniques.

Most of the KZbin welders that ive seen are only good enough to do tack welds on washing machines
@Ruben9014 жыл бұрын
@@gerardovasquez2064 Obviously NOT the famous ones, but ive seen some that buy a plug in the wall welder and start lecturing people, then theres one welder who is installing a pipe fence and considers that "Real Welding" because pipeliners only run downhill, he was pretty much running 7018 uphill and was pretty much bragging about it.

Good to see this multi bead butt weld instead of the wide weaves cause many places dont allow you to weave that wide
@tjaydagreat Жыл бұрын
This works for him and that's fine. We all weld differently. I run my 7018 much faster and it sounded like his machine was a tad bit cold. I have to turn my amperage down sometimes because no matter how fast I go, the arc is just DIGGING into the pipe no matter what. No matter if you're running 309 stainless stick, or 7018, you must ALWAYS watch the puddle... BTW I also have an outlaw leather but it's custom. It's black leather with a UNC symbol on one side and an OU symbol on the other.

Any tips to weld vertical up with a 7018 it’s always dripping down im a beginner in high school
@Ruben9014 жыл бұрын
I like to weld it slightly colder, like around 110 or 115 amps with a 1/8 rod. If you use a 3/32, its obvious you will have to burn a little more colder
@evoryann4 жыл бұрын
Id go about 85 to 90 amps for a beginner on that and like we all know PLEASE pause on the walls, most important. shove that rod in too dont long arc it
@Thorn197744 жыл бұрын
Lower amperage. Ill run it at 100-110 amps. Also it could be your angle as well as your arc length. More than likely your arc length keep it short.

@the people who responded, thanks ill keep that in mind tomorrow at school 👨🏭

Whats the material thickness and joint and rod diameter you're using? If you don't know already, an easy calculation to figure out starting amperages for 7018 electrodes for any size is you divide the numerator (upper number of a fraction) by the denominator (lower number of a fraction). This is works for XX18 rods I'm going to assume your using 3/32 on 3/8" or 1/2" plate. So 3 divided by 32 = 94 amps. So right away because you're doing an uphill/vertical progression and heat travels up and gravity wants to pull a liquid metal puddle downwards, you should consider lowering the amps by an initial 5% or so. (5amps) like everyone else said. That'll be a good starting point for 3F weld. Nothing wrong with adjusting the amperage afterwards again. You could even keep going down so far that you'll know its way to cold just to mess around with it and see how your puddle reacts to lower amperage ranges. Then the other important factor to consider is your rod manipulation. That consists of your angle (the way the rod is pointing at the material side to side), your speed of travel (how fast you're going side to side and how much your stepping up the puddle every time you go side to side) and lastly your rod inclination (this relates to how perpendicular the rod is to your material). Rod manipulation for fillet weld(I'm assuming you're doing fillet welds on lap joints): first pass- rod angle =1/2 of the included joint angle. its a 90degree joint so half is 45 degrees. I like doing a J pattern on a first pass in a sharp corner. Inclination: you want to point the rod up 10-20 degrees. For every pass after that, the manipulation would definitely be a zig zag pattern, just like in this YT video above. You want to pause on your sides and watch that puddle grow/wash out before going to the opposite side and doing that again. Your basically stacking one puddle over the last puddle thats already started to cool off and solidify as well as moving up a bit every time. For step increases i would go with 1 rod diameter steps. So every time you go from one side to the other, you're also stepping up. Like a slope. There's lots of variations on everything I said and I just wanted to explain this in case it could help.

I thought root pass is supposed to be 6011 then fill the rest with 7018.
@Ruben9014 жыл бұрын
This is common on structural welding tests, because there is no gap, 7018 can be used all the way out. If it had a gap, then you would use 6010 for root and hot

My 7018 is always puffy like tall and not flat. why is that? Am I too slow or too cold?
@Ruben9014 жыл бұрын
Probably not staying on the sides too much, imagine each side of the bevel as a sponge, that base metal can suck up some heat if the plate is thick enough, so dont worry about staying on the sides too long, but this is only if your weaving. I like to run my vertical 7018s at a colder temp when running 1/8 rod, if ran too hot you will drip.

And if you know how to take care of them they will last you for quite a while... but his left hand placement with a pair of gloves like that that haven't had some kind of conditioning on them!! That left-hand glove ain't going to make it 16 hours.. the left-hand glove will be in perfect condition the right hand will be shrunk up and as hard as a rock

Again not trying to be judgmental or sarcastic and it's great that you are putting instructional stuff out there!! And granted I'm only a third-generation welder.. there is always one thing that really really bothered me and I can't understand why.. I mean just look at the electrode holder really really look at your alligator clamp electrode holder.. and then look at a video of yourself using that electrode holder and welding with it... and tell me how this makes sense to you people.. and I'm talkin about your right hand... look at the size and weight of that electrode holder and look at where your positioning your right hand.. it's sad to me but you got to do what you going to do.. and all of that guiding the electrode with your left hand and propping up your left on a cheater thing.. and burying your face in the arc I mean like keeping your lens 10 inches away from the actual Ark... these are all things I was taught not to do.. it's just a small observations and an opinion...
