Very nice looking welds. In Canada, the CWB all position plate test using flux core has the highest failure rate, almost 80%. Andrew made it look easy.

So I have to get certified at work for a 3g dual shield flux core test, the welding "instructor" told me I should be able to fill a 3/8 plate in one pass. Told him I'm gonna need 3, 1 root and 2 stringers just like this video the same "instructor" lasted at my part of the shop for 1 week, my lead told me he didn't use gas for the dual shield. Shows how people don't know anything, not claiming to know much but anyways great video and practice practice practice.

Wow, such a great video! Thanks for doing this! When I failed my flat test, the plates were one inch thick. The cover pass had to be one pass. I bombed that test so bad, I had style lol. Thanks again for making this awesome video! Now to catch up on other WTAT vidz...
@hoonyfan29245 жыл бұрын
I just noticed something that might be important. When I did my 3G citification practice, I was told that I needed to start just under the side plate and run each pass well past the top of the side plates. I don’t know how much has changed or if my teacher was just super picky about making sure you got no undercut on both ends of the coupon.

I want to become a welder to earn a bit more of income to help my father pay more of the bills since taxes on the house are really holding him back, i would also like to go into college to earn a certificate for welding so i can go to a bigger company and get payed more! Believe it or not too much tension on the drive rolls was the culprit.
@ecr125x7 жыл бұрын
Timothy Hendershott makes sense, volts to high OR wire speed to low is what I shoulda said... my miller suitcase has a "soft start" option and I most of turned it on by accident, I don't know the point in soft start but I noticed it slows the wire speed when you first pull the trigger.. took me for ever to figure out why I had worm tracks st the beginning of my welds but when I used my millermatic 252 with same settings I had no worm tracks! Glad ya got it.

Question. I am currently using Stoody Build Up 0 in rock crusher. The problem is there seems to be minimal penetration with this wire which is .052 Flux the rotors are non ferrous. Looking for an idea on how to minimize the sizers being worn or broken so quick. Also cap the sizers with Lincore 60-0 hardsurfacing wire .052 which has started chipping off the next shift when crusher goes down for daily maintenance. Any ideas? I thought about trying 6011 as an overlay before using wire

I've never taken a plate test with a backing strip and I've maybe laid 1 bead using flux core in the 2 1/2 years I've been welding.

They are amazing machines. We've got probably 15 of them at the college I teach at and they are pretty much bulletproof.
@bojengels18 жыл бұрын
+Michael Wheeler stick them in a production environment and you'll see a different side of the machine. We have 17 booths and we weld all day with the PowerWave 455M and S500 and they are nothing but problems. Not only are they inconsistent but I've lost count on how many have gone up in flames. Yes flames. Their customer service was just as terrible but not quite as bad as Fronius. Don't believe the hype on pulse with steel.
@locomike1028 жыл бұрын
I have no experience with PowerWaves, I'm talking about the 350MPs used in the video. Ours run 8 to 10 hours a day, 5 days a week, with students grinding right next to them and some of our are over 5 years old. This year we had an on-off switch break--that has been the only problem. We have, however, had 5 Miller Dynasty 200 welders die in the last year and two of them literally went up in flames. I'll keep using what works for me.
