Armin wing using 3mm depron and 6mm former. 6 x 1 mm CF strip spar. 3 channel motor glider weighing 300g. Much smoother and less prone to stalls than the thinner wing.

Hi Andrew, congrats on another great build! I have been dreaming for the past months of building an armin wing DLG, but so far haven't had much success with 3 failed attempts. Considering how much you've perfected your building techniques, I'd like to ask you to consider building one. There are a couple of folks who did it already but they don't really have the type of vlog documentation you do, which is extremely helpful. Please, if you have the time, give it a try. I'm from Brazil, and it's pretty much impossible to buy a DLG around here. Even the "cheaper" ones would break the bank 😅 On KZbin, there is a guy called flyboa who has Dollar tree foam board dlgs flying marvelously, but no build videos. If you look up "dtfb dlg" you can easily find it. Thank you so much!

when you're setting up your control surfaces do you want the ailerons to extend out matching the flat surface of the bottom of the wing or to follow the downward sloop of the top of the wing?
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 5 жыл бұрын
Ideally both. That means the airfoil needs to be a bit thicker at the hinge and the ailerons sanded down to a fine trailing edge. But if you're just adding flat ailerons on to an existing airfoil then I would have them flat to match the bottom.
@quadflopper1012
@quadflopper1012 5 жыл бұрын
thanks, it's the same large walmart chuck glider that flight test converted to rc earlier this year, it has really think foam wings that i added twin motors and control surfaces to using dollar store foam board and instead of tapering the foam board i just used packing tape to form the trailing edges of the foam board. i did have a friend who is a professional rc pilot for the movie industry fly it once and he said it was way to fast and had way too much control authority for a beginner pilot like me which is probably why i haven't had a successful fight with it yet but i just cut down the control surfaces to make less like a 3d plane but with the huge fat wings i didn't know which part of the wing surface i should match the ailerons too. as soon as the big winds were experiencing now subside I'll take it out for another crash test...lol, thanks again

Sweet. Oh, what's this? I've not seen this location (slope) before - you've got dozens and I don't even have one :( Say, I have a carbon fiber suggestion for you, so bear with me. I know you're happy with arrow shafts and for larger diameters, buying a blank, but in the past I have seen carbon fiber fishing rods go for incredibly dirt cheap prices like maybe $15 USD. Now I know they're tapered, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. There are ways to make that right. After all, the manufacturers have no problem putting handles on these rods. Anyway, I was a fishing fool for decades and I saw those 'clearance' deals from time e.g. Walmart and I just wanted to mention it for your bag of tricks (possibilities).
