for my phd i drilled two holes using the auger got two large ltree limbs with a crotch and another limb to go across the crotch to hold up my phd when not in use. easier to hook up and take off like that.

Thanks for sharing OD. Sorry it didn't work out well, thats a shame. But appreciate being able to see it -good or bad. Informative. Have a good week!

O&D, great video. This is what folks need to see and know. A tractor post hole digger is nice if you're going to dig MANY holes on a regular basis and if there's plenty of open space to get your tractor into position. Digging a couple-two holes once or twice a year is not worth the cost. The cost of tractor post hole digger may range from $500 to $2000 depending on make/size. Instead, I purchased a one-man post-hole auger 14-ish years ago and had to drill through many roots and rocks in wooded area but that auger only cost $200-ish dollars and I could take it anywhere with little trouble. I just threw it in the back of the PU truck or onto my ATV and I was on my way into the wooded area where I was fencing. I drilled over 150 to 170 holes mostly 3 feet deep and a few 4 feet deep. That little auger was a beast. The back hoe is the way to go. Sure it makes the hole bigger, but you can fill that in. Easier to fill back in than to dig it out (smile). Thanks for the video and for sharing. Thumbs up. This video is exactly what tractor owners need to see and know. Good job, man.

Thanks Don! Sounds like you made a very wise choice and have gotten your money out of that little beast.

Took me a week to dig 4ft. hole with my post hole digger, hard dry clay and rocks. After going down as far as I could go filled up hole with water, let it soak in, then dig some more. Without the water I'd probably still be digging!

If I wouldn't have had the backhoe I might have tried the water. Funny how it can work like a charm or a curse! :)

I put mine on for one hole. But then I found out a very easy way to put it on. I put it on in three parts. I have hitch pins in place of the bolts. Mount the arched piech. Mount the boom and pin the two together. Rase the boom with the power. Then hang the gearbox and pin it on. Much faster and not heavy and cumbersome that way. I'm 66 and do it by myself.

I've tried it similar, just dont use it too much. I've run into some tough digging conditions where it even struggled. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanks for sharing, Garrett. Thanks to videos from you and many others, I am not likely to get a PHD for my little 1025R. The limited lift and power of my tractor, my rocky clay soil, and hilly terrain of my pasture make it a poor option for me.

Your welcome! They can be a pain! When it works, it's great, just got to have the right conditions.

Nice video.. a 3-point auger could be very frustrating at times.. I plan on building/fabbing up a front skidsteer coupler to a low pressure low GPM auger motor and running it to my 3rd function or rear remotes on my bx once I get them. It’s gonna so Very slow I’m sure of that but with augers you don’t Necessarily need speed as you do down pressure and torque.. I feel that the bx can handle it even tho most may thing it won’t have the flow I disagree. Also this would take care of poor visibility and so on being that the auger will be out front on my loader. When I start on the project I’ll shoot you my video link.

I guess there is some kind of soil where the PHD is working better. Any clay makes it likely to screw itself. Too much rocks like where GP and I live is not good either. That is where the backhoe covers all the possibilities. Thanks!

Yeah, I have a lot of clay and it had been really dry.

post hole digger can be a pain. soil needs to be the right stuff for best results.

Garrett, I think I have finally made up my mind..... I have a BX23S, and really wanted a PHD..... But after watching you and others, I think spending about $900 for a good one is just not worth it. If I need to dig many holes, I think a trip to my rental yard and renting one is my best bet..... I also don't have to store the darn thing! I really appreciate watching a regular person using their BX. Steve
@ODLife6 жыл бұрын
Your welcome Steve! Before getting the tractor I rented one of those 2 person augers. The conditions worked out and no problems. Seems like if it is really dry, then the 3pt PHD is a pain.
@LouisianaTractorworks6 жыл бұрын
Thanks O&D, I think if you do have a bunch of holes to dig it would be better to rent one.

Yep, I was hoping it would have gone right in and could get it set.

So Post Hole diggers may or may not be the answer!! You're lucky that you have a backhoe!!! A bigger hole but it looks a lot easier to use...

Exactly, I'm learning that the soil conditions need to be just right.

Was the BX just not strong enough to break up the clay and dig? Sometimes I wish I would of went with the B series.
@ODLife6 жыл бұрын
The bigger auger bit was not aggressive enough and wouldn't go on down. The smaller bit would screw itself in to the point that you can't lift out. I would stop it after it just started to dig in cause it will screw itself in fast.

If you had a bunch of holes to dig, it can be worth it if the conditions are right.
