Wasn't a RPG it was a 120mm mortar round, artillery rounds are one thing but when a 120 mortar round lands it's super concusive and you can tell what it is by the bass in the noise, it's probably the worst thing to land near you also because it's extremely high fragmentation.

I mean that one dude was trapped in a place he couldn't leave without getting shot, and the Ukranians couldn't swarm or push over the bulkhead because the Russians behind the trapped guy would've lit them up. It basically came down to landing the right grenade throw or the Russians that were already retreating just abandon their comrade to avoid losing more (typical Russians I guess)And to throwing nades in a straight line fight like this involves sticking your head up and heaving your arm over you in the face of gunfire leads you to throw quickly thus less accurately. All in all though, yes totally correct and insane how long that took, but that's how trench warfare can be - it's so linear in those "treelines".

22:18 here our guys were supposed to disembark from the equipment and storm enemy positions. But when the apparatus opened, the enemy started firing at M113 (YPR-765). During the withdrawal and evacuation, the APC was hit by an anti-tank missile. Which wounded even more soldiers. Unfortunately, this assault was not successful, and our fighters suffered losses. I do not have information about whether there were any casualties, but you can definitely find out from the video that approximately 4-5 fighters were wounded

The terrain alone is a battle. Forests turned to splinters. Old trees disintegrated from artillery strewn over dozens of square meters apiece. Step on one spot and a branch comes up to snag or trip you. Lifted roots to roll your ankle while you focus on defeating the enemy. It takes nerve to fight in such places.

@@thecharlie9527thats kinda unsurprising. The US (and most NATO countries for that matter) train and develop their doctrine and tactics around air superiority, which ukraine just cant achieve at the moment. Something like artillery isnt much of an issue when you have F-35 an with SDB's or an F-15E with SDB's, HARMs, AMRAAM'S, a JDAM, and some drop tanks for good measure just loitering over head, waiting to be given a reason 🤷‍♂️ at the moment, Ukraine likely has the most knowledge and experience with modern warfare out of any countries in NATO. Really, they should be training us these days instead of it being the other way around.

That russian Major was the commander of the Alga Battalion, part of the 72nd Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade. The 3rd Assault Brigade erased the 72nd when they took Andriivka, there's drone footage of the last three russians there that surrendered (and got schwacked by their own arty killing one). The Ukrainians used a drone with a loud speaker to call the russians to surrender, kinda innovative solution. There are interviews with both the Major and the two surviving russian POWs, quite interesting to listen to the Major talk.

Otherwise it’s almost impossible to smoke enemy from those pretty developed and deep burrows. 18:11 - He isn’t shooting towards the road. It’s artillery. Probably Russian, trying to stop the assault. Artillery is always present in every battle. Guys you have no idea, Russians can use artillery trying to get a couple of their own surrendered soldiers. They have looooaaaads of armor. They do not care if they are accurate or miss, they just fire twice more.

Well we've sent billions and billions but your president keeps taking it and snorting cocaine and buying hookers and selling ammunition off. I mean when we've done sent Ukraine more money than we spent in 20 years in Afghanistan what's that tell you. Blame your leaders for the results that are happening in Ukraine cuz I don't see how things are so bad but there's video of a woman working at a gas station and she has a $70,000 outfit on. Plus I know a couple of guys that went over there and they brought back some pretty good footage and all I can say is what the mainstream media is reporting is a bunch of bullshit. And you would be getting more support from America if we didn't have our own problems caused by the Democrats here with our open borders and terrorists coming in to kill our own people so a lot of Americans ain't too worried about what's going on in Ukraine right now and you can thank the Democrats for that. It's sad cause I support Ukraine but like everybody around me is saying they're damn sure not going to let their kids go to some foreign country and fighting some war that don't concern us. People need to wake up and realize that's a reason why America was founded was to get away from all that b******* and all these tyrants over in Europe. Don't be mad at America cuz they've sent more money in ammunition than anybody in Europe that should be more concerned considering it's on their doorstep so I don't want to hear about America and more support. He's waiting on give so much support our cost of living has tripled while the cost of Russia's has dropped. If you can't see the people who are running the country and the people in the world economic forum that are really the problem than everyone is screwed anyways. I mean I'm not going to sit here and want my tax money to go to another country that's being invaded when this country's been invaded as we speak. If Biden and the Democrats didn't want to keep the border open just so they can illegally get more voters for the Democratic party then Ukraine would be getting more support. So don't be mad at America be mad at the socialist Communist Democrats. If you really only knew the amount of money and ammunition has been sent there would be more than enough but politicians have to have a way to launder their money and that's basically why this war is going on in the first place. The Democrats in NATO wanted to put NATO right on Russia's front doorstep and they told them that was going to be unacceptable and they still wanted to do it anyways and then Russia invaded.

Kyiv Independent today "I am an American military veteran, callsign "Jackie," and I am writing from Donbas in Ukraine. I am originally from Orange County, California. I served in the U.S. military for eight years, stationed in Colorado, South Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. I also worked as a contractor at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center in North Carolina, helping prepare our future special operators. As an American soldier, I have always been interested in our national security and global interests. I am currently an assault instructor serving in the 3rd Assault Brigade, an elite unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. A few days ago, we came to the rescue of Ukrainian forces who had been enduring the Russian attack on the town of Avdiivka. Our fighters quickly destroyed two Russian brigades and kept a corridor open for Ukrainians in Avdiivka to retreat from the town. Our soldiers are true professionals, undisturbed by the massive Russian firepower being flung at them and fighting hard to gain and maintain the corridor. One thing I teach my students is to conduct “shaping-operations”- essentially, to take steps by using alternative means such as artillery, airpower (drones in our case), or electronic warfare to prepare the battlefield for the success of our infantry to capture their final positions. My students are very excited to employ these techniques, they train on them and use them in battle frequently. Ukrainian soldiers are highly motivated to fight efficiently and reduce casualties as they are making their transition from Soviet to NATO doctrinal warfare. Our brigade is leading this transition and using shaping-operations at every level possible - even down to the squad. We make plans, we do reconnaissance, we task support assets and we review our actions after battle to learn what we did well and what we need to change. We admit our successes and failures and we improve and grow ourselves as professionals. Because of this, in battle, we are confident and unrelenting. On the ground in Avdiivka, we felt the results of current U.S. politics with full force. We are accustomed to fighting with less artillery than Russia. We have already developed clever ways of using precision fire to counter Russian artillery. Our artillery soldiers use their U.S.-provided weapons efficiently and effectively to batter the second largest military in the world, so that our assaulters have cover while they pierce like needles to rapidly cut Russian forces' critical arteries. We are used to fighting understrength. We are intelligently adapted and trained to push ourselves to the highest level of combat performance, but we cannot deliver miracles. We have already delivered many miracles in this war, and I am sure we will continue to do so, but hoping for miracles is not a reliable way to win a war. I need to go pray and say goodbye to more of my students and friends. These soldiers, these men and women, are incredible people. It takes weeks to teach American soldiers what Ukrainians are able to learn in hours. Their standards and self-expectations are high. They usually accomplish complex team-based tasks correctly on their first attempt. Every time they fail in training, they get angry with themselves and repeat the task until it is right. I have never had to ask them to stay later or work harder. They hardly sleep, they don’t complain, and most of them have families. Besides not getting to spend time with their families, these soldiers know that this fight is for their future and their safety. I am extremely disappointed in a super minority decision in Congress to block funding for Ukraine. They have said that we need this or that - border security or healthcare or whatever you want to say - but it is clear to me that this is solely about Ukraine. We didn’t have proper border security or healthcare in 2010 either - or 2000, or 1990, or 1980, or 1970 0r 1960, or 1950. Our decision and ability as Americans to have funding for something we supposedly want has nothing to do with enabling Ukraine’s current defense. The problems in the U.S. that this super minority in Congress is citing to block funding have endured since the founding of our nation in the 1700s. They have nothing to do with Ukraine in 2024. I am sure that France in 1776 could have come up with many excuses not to support American colonists fighting for independence from British subjugation. Foreign support and arms enabled Congress to stand today. Now, we are tasked to keep the light of freedom lit for others. The current speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, wants to pour water on that fire. We are fighting hard against impossible odds. All you need to do is help from a distance, and that is a good thing for Americans. You do not want to come here. The Ukrainians are dying and it is not out of ignorance or accident. They are dedicated to their liberation from Soviet values and Russian oppression. They are spilling oceans of blood to join the free democracies of the world. There is more, but there are limyts on how much you can post.

What I think really gets me is the quality. From the footage of Afghanistan and Iraq to this, there's been a leap of technology in that regard. It doesn't help that the 3rd Assault Brigade adds epic music to a lot of their uploads, and it makes the footage seem movie like in the most horrifying realistic way. From what I've seen when they say "control" -something it means they're controlling a sector, or cone of vision in a certain way. Standard "control" by itself just means you control a sector by holding aim to it, "fire control" has to do with being engaged (pre-engagement if both forces recognize each others positions but haven't started volleying rounds it's a moment of "fire control" holding a sector where there is about to be or likely to be immediate exchange of fire in the zone of control)

So the confusing situation with the M113 trying to unload and getting hit I think goes something like this: four M113s are assaulting a russian trench line. The M113 with the cameraman is taking heavy MG fire from those trenches, you can hear the pings from the rounds impacting the vehicle before, after and during the ramp going down. First guy out gets cut down by that MG fire, you can hear him scream, I'm not sure but I think the M113 might have backed up over him too... The M113 takes one RPG round after backing up, wounding the rest of the squad and prompting them to scream for the driver to get them the hell out of there. As they're going back up that hill the M113 takes another RPG which disables it. They guys dismount from the now burning vehicle and are stuck in a very awkward position with Russians controlling the high ground around the Ukrainian survivors, with them taking accurate RPG and small arms fire. I'm guessing they got picked up by that M113 and evacuated in the end.
