Great video! I think you are over 20 pts on your list though, i think you have Malestrom at 30 instead of 50. And yeah that spell shrug feels so bad when you run into it. I recently played against an OBR opponent and its straight 2+ across the board. It basically shut me down.

I don't think you get to double dip on the CPP for the Astrolith Bearer carrying the Arcane Tome, he still just gets 1 at the beginning of the turn. Or have I been playing it wrong?

Hi Caleb, based on which rule phrase did you count the extra cp for the astrolith at 8:50? For me it reads like this: "At the start of your hero phase, you receive 1 cosmic power point for each friendly STARBORNE WIZARD or friendly STARBORNE ASTROLITH BEARER on the battlefield." If i counted him as wizard, i do not count him again as a bearer twice. i just add the tome to have an additional spell and so get my extra point. Please correct me if i am wrong, would be great to generate that extra point :P

I used the new Warriors and then the Kroxigor kits come with extra weapons and I used those weapons as big shields. I also found the Necron Lychguard have cool shields that I used on a different set of 5 guys

Question on wording for cpp generation for the astrolith bearer w/ arcane tome. The wording says 1 cpp for each wizard OR astrolith bearer on the field. Does this mean you don’t get 2 points for an astrolith w/ arcane tome? Ps: Huge fan of your channel!

I can’t speak for anyone else but I’ve it ruled in 3 tournaments now that it only counts as 1. The reasoning each time was that it’s being defined a Node is what generates the CPP. And being a wizard / astrolith bearer is just what tags it as a Node. I still run it with the tome for the extra cast.

Update: Played another game last weekend, after carefully watching the video. It pointed me to some things I did wrong, which added to losing all the time. I actually managed to win my last game, by 24 to 12! 😊 Thanks a LOT!!!❤

I think the Andtorian Acolytes battalion is much more valuable than the extra artifact. Pushing through critical spells and ensuring unbinds for extra CPP pays out much more than just the extra cast/CPP from tome imho

I believe he meant that you used to be able to cast any number of spells from Kroak through the Troglodon. So the strategy was to teleport it up to 12” out then nuke their base with Kroak spells. They since nerfed it to only one spell from each of the Slann.

Hmmm... 600 pts is an odd amount... I might try to maximize Cosmic Power Points as much as possible. Summoning units in a low point game is quite valuable! BUT... even if we fit in a Slann and another wizard (squeezed in a Terradon Chief with Arcane Tome to give us another cast)... that only gives us 7 CPP per turn. Just shy of the 8 pts needed to summon skinks every turn. Slann Starmaster (310) - General - Command Trait: Shaman of the Chilled Lands - Spell: Comet's Call Terradon Chief (90) - Artefact: Arcane Tome (Universal Artefact) 10 x Skinks (90) 10 x Skinks (90) Total: 580 So... maybe pivot to some Raptadons and Skink wizards: Skink Starseer (160) - General - Command Trait: Master of Star-rituals - Artefact: Sacred Stegadon Helm - Lore of Primal Frost: Hoarfrost Skink Starpriest (130) - Lore of Primal Frost: Merciless Blizzard 5 x Raptadon Chargers (150) 5 x Raptadon Chargers (150) Total: 590 That would enable you to buff up those Raptadons pretty well (Hoarfrost, Speed of Huanchi, Mystic Shield, and Serpent Staff). AND you would still be getting 5 CPP per turn!

Yep! Tzeench ends up with the same 18" spell threat range... So whoever gets into range and hits all their spells will end up winning! Unless they are running a bunch of Pink Horrors... Those things are VERY hard to chew thru.

You should review Basil's Starbourne from Da Boyz that went 5-0. It won almost exclusively with movement fundamentals

I'm drawn to Starborne, except owning Kroak and Endless Spells are not in my near future. I currently own - Slann StarMaster 10 Raptodons 10 Saurus Warriors 3 Kroxigor 1 Carnosaur w Old One rider 1 Bastilodon with Solar Engine 1 Astrolith Bearer 24 skinks 1 Skink Starpriest I'm considering picking up a SoC and or the Vanguard Box for a Trog, more Warriors and Krox. Maybe another Astro? Thoughts?

Thanks for the video! This one was really helpful when it comes to the tactics, army composition, etc.. One thing I consider a must is taking an Andtorian Acolyte battalion because I found that it can be detrimental if my opponent has equal to or more Primal dice since most of our army does its work in the hero phase. I really like the example list as well, however with the points adjustment to Malevolent Maelstrom its now 2020, but there are a number of small changes that can be done to drop those 20 points, you could take hunters with bolas instead if skinks, or change a starseer to a Starpriest so that you have a throwaway spell caster, hardly any real risk tossing a Starpriest in the front to deal 5-10 d6 across your opponents army depending on deployment. Question, who do i put my 5+ward on from my starseer? And how exactly does selfless protectors work with a 5+ward? Can I bodyguard and 5+/6+ward? I know we used to due to the order of operations, not sure if that changed.

I know you technically did one with stormkeep, but that also doubled as a unit overview.... and it sorta lost its structure in its 9 hour runtime haha

Hold up, I though MW skip wards straight up, other than in special cases. So why is it so imperative to shut off wards before Kroak's spells? I must be missing something.

Yes, mortal wounds go straight through the normal armor save, but they can be stopped by WARD saves. 14.5 MORTAL WOUNDS Some attacks, spells and abilities cause mortal wounds. Do not make hit, wound or save rolls for mortal wounds. 14.3 WARDS Some abilities allow you to roll a dice to negate a wound or mortal wound. Abilities of this type are referred to as wards, and the dice roll is referred to as a ward roll.

Nope, I jump all over, I do recommend using a die and placing it next to that wizard so your opponent knows your not casting to many spells, the length of our hero phase can get questionable after the 9th Spell in a row.

Caleb, you are the man. Ive been competing with Starborne for a bit now, one thing I have loved as of late (not too different) is running an ally of 2 stormdrake guard and running the umbral spellportal just to cast the star seers no ward save spell through that. Makes him very dangerous from a range, that and also using Horrorghast or gemenids. Hope that helps!! keep it up!

What are your thoughts to adding a Pontifex as an ally? I am looking to add him which will mean I remove a Seer but the prayer to do D3 mortals to all enemy wizards and priests seems pretty good, although 3+ then 2+ per Wiz/Priest.

Additionally, it really sucks if your opponent has Andtorian Acolytes and you don't. That can be a real feel bad hero phase. Don't forget, you get to roll for that extra die in both your, and you're opponents hero phase.

The endless spell lets the Slann Starmaster, and Lord Kroak can do it on his own.

Chronomatic Cogs allows a wizard to cast an extra spell (just Mystic Shield). Not a good use of points in most armies... But with a Slann who has Celestial Resonance (double the CPP for spells), it is quite useful!
