Project Sport Runner is 20 years old this year and it's hard to believe. Other than one oxygen sensor that went bad, it's only had normal fluid, tire, and brake changes. It was time to start a bit of restoration with some over due items like the timing belt, water pump, idler and tensioner pulleys, radiator, coolant flush, drive belts, rear axle seals, retainers, and rear brakes.

Speedy you are right on the mark with this one. Did the rear seals on a ‘99 and a ‘00 that were purchased in 2018/19. Both sets had failed (both were around 220k). Unfortunately, got the strawberry milkshake on one but did both radiators. Timing belt is right on too. Watch out for the wiring harness on the hatch. Also, the rack and bushings are something to keep an eye on. Great channel…appreciate the content and the dedication to your projects.

@@SpeedysGarage You should also look into replacing the lower ball joints which are a common failure point on these vehicles. Use only OEM Toyota ball joints if you do decide to change them.

Yup, I keep an eye on mine for sure. Mine were replaced at like 50K miles under some Toyota recall campaign or something. I check them with a pry bar periodically.

I understand where you’re coming from having someone else work on your vehicle but to be honest I absolutely hate doing that, they obviously want to get the car in and out as quick as possible maybe not laying down towels to protect the paint and plastic, however I have to give kudos to my local dodge dealership when I had to take my challenger in for recalls, alternator, passenger airbag and evap they took care of me, my car is not a daily driver just a weekend warrior, I let them know how anal I am about my car and my dealership has an area that they work on more expensive higher end cars like vipers and hellcats and that’s where they worked on my car, they even kept it in the shop until I picked it up to prevent any possibility of door dents, great video sir

1990 4Runner SR5 had head gasket problems; factory recalled twice. On the third time, no more (free) recall. I got rid of it at 275,000 miles. 2001 4Runner Limited, 212,000 miles so far. Average 20 mpg (original brochure estimate of 17/20). Done brake job, timing belt twice, drive belt, intake manifold and valve cover gaskets, radiator, weather strips. Next, water pump and thermostat. Probably should have done these while doing the others.

I wanted to buy a 2001 used truck and talk to a local mechanic who had one in his lot, I asked him if the truck was for sale and he said no cause the truck needed some repairs and it was hard to find the parts, so I ended up buying a 2006 Toyota Avalon with 75 thousand miles and I'm enjoying it. 👍

I have a 2000 4runner 4wd and I just finished doing all of that maintenance over the past 8 months and it was pretty pricey but I plan to keep it for a while. You should definitely consider replacing the rear driveshaft. I replaced mine and it drives like a brand new truck. Mine kept clunking despite being greased and besides the truck probably needs new u joints anyway

Can anyone tell me what I need to do if I haven't started my 99 4runner (250k) for over a year. I was thinking I should inject a small amount of lube (STABIL fogging oil) into each cylinder, then crank it without the injector and gas pump fuses so it can turn a few times to get it lube under low pressure than start it up. Any other method would you recommend?

Any info where to buy a Turbo? Got an ‘02 T4R Limited with 97,500k miles on it. Always having thoughts of getting rid of it but she’s a darling. Still runs good especially during winter in the midwest. Next in line is the timing belt, water pump, ect. Got the upstream O2 sensor replaced couple yrs and thats it. This rig will last forever.

Mate, there is 2000 sr5 for sale in Seattle. Yes the back bumper is rusted . Its a dealership maintained SUV. I am thinking of getting it. It will be a daily commute car for me . Yes it will be driven 7 days a week. Some days would be 100 to 300 miles a day 290 ,000 miles on it. IF there is not frame rust i would get it. So is it possible to use an old SUV for daily use?

I don't see how coolant can get into that tranny cooler section. It looks like there not connected, it's a separate cooler just housed in the rad housing.
@SpeedysGarage
@SpeedysGarage 10 ай бұрын
I believe the fittings fail and coolant leaks into the trans lines.
@roofermarc1
@roofermarc1 10 ай бұрын
@@SpeedysGarage I'm still not seeing that. They show huge amounts of coolant soon ruining the tranny with a strawberry milkshake! If the tranny fluid is running through its own cooler it must have coolant running through a chamber or port right next to it and the aluminum gives way and mixes everything

add to you video no mechanic is going to do what you tell them, they would tell you that they would do but never do. Most mechanics can't do anything other than a oil change.
