Count me in on the Merkur XR4Ti (especially if it is manual)! When I was traveling for work in 1986-1987, this was always the car I would rent. That ended when the rental companies calculated the maintenance costs. So much more fun and interesting than any other "domestic" rental option. Not sure if it really makes sense as a budget-flip though.

If done up correctly, especially finding that iconic rear dual wing, the XR4TI could get up in the 10K+ range from what I have been seeing. As someone else mentioned, Im would bet there are some newer Mustang and Escort upgrades that would fit, but you get away from the originality which I would expect is where you would get closer to. your 10K goal. Here in the UK it’s a Sierra XR4i with a 2.8 cologne v6. Very rare and wanted here but they were made of alka seltzer and dissolved in the rain with rust. They also got stolen A LOT in period and trashed. I had a 4 door cosworth and was always somewhat jealous of the original 3 door shell.

Advertise a decent Merkur XR4ti in the UK and you should definitely get some decent money for it. The 3-door shells alone are probably worth whatever you might get for it in the states once done (because Sierra Cosworth), as long as it's not completely rotten. @@Ebil-One I didn't say anything about the XR4, we had the XR4 too, but we also got an XR8 ( X-R-EIGHT ), with a 5L V8 motor, from the factory. And I had the station wagon with the 3.2L twin turbo cosworth, but I don't think that came from the factory like that. South Africa always had bigger motors than europe, in Sierra's, Cortina's Capri's and so on, and they came from the factory like that. Even Alfa, BMW, GM/Opel and other makers always made South African only versions of cars that would haul ass compared to the europe ones.

An RS500 body kit from the UK or even some Cosworth bumpers would make that Merkur look smart. The 2.3 8v turbo engine is ok and could make about 250hp safely without much trouble. Parts are easy to come by. The car itself is easy to work on. Standard car purchase rules apply. Look for rust, worn interior, check electrical etc. The dual plane wings can be difficult to source but I know that one of the vendors has several new OEM wings. Windshields are also difficult to source but the other vendor has numerous taken from scrapped XR4Tis. The manuals are worth far more than the automatics. Mainly because ford detuned the automatics by 35HP. Make sure you go for the manual.

@@jeffpark6040 Nah -- Sierra Mk1 was made 1982 to 1987 :) then the second generation from 1987 to 1992 Merkur was a European XR4i (2.8i V6 na) with american engine 2.3 4 cyl turbo - they were build in Germany (not England) by Karmann -- only 42 thousand were sold. It was Merkur Xr4Ti and they had the second model - Merkur Scorpio (with a V6) later they sold them as XR4Ti without Merkur brand.

@@jeffpark6040 Oh and Mk1 Sierra Xr4i (2.8 V6 with split rear windows) were made only 1983 -1985 in Europe ---- then this body dissapeared here, but they've made the Merkur from 1985 up to 1989 (as a continuation of this body line) Also South America had the Sierra --- XR4 (non i) started 1984 with carburated motor (2.3 na (non turbo) in Argentina), had the split window models and big window 3 door models, they also had the 5 door Mk1 and 1.6 engines. They never had the facelifted Mk2 model -- and they've made Mk1s up to 1992 :D On the other hand Venezuela had Sierra 280/ 280GT and Xr4i (2.8 V6) 3 door/5 door/ estate, in Venezuela they;ve had the Euro Mk2 Sierra :D with the 2.9 V6 and new to the mk2 sedans

XR4Ti!!!!! Yes!!! I tried to buy one when I was 17. Dealership almost let me drive it away. Sadly a manager figured out that I wasn’t old enough when I showed up to pick it up. Just the shell is worth $ if you find a European buyer and willing to strip it down and ship it.

I wouldn’t mind seeing another 4 runner. Flipping cars, you go with what you are familiar with, you can learn from the previous truck and look for those items. Plus, 4Runners are an easy sell.

I've been flipping cars and trucks for 40 years. That said I know what the market is over flooded with and by what is rare and needed. Istick 2/3 quarter and 1 ton 4 by 4 Chevy and GMC trucks. Always go with cash in hand. I bought a 2002 avalanche and it was a complete nightmare 😂 I got it cheap and turn the profit but God did it have some problems. Keep up the good work Jared and good luck on your next flip 👍✌️🇺🇲

Buy it! An epic Ford Sierra XR4i (in the UK). Really rare to get one here now. Those 3 door shells are a nightmare to find in good condition. Most have been smashed up. Bit of a reputation for being totalled as they came with a Ford Essex V6 (2.8ltr V6) and rear wheel drive. One of the last rear wheel drive cars from Ford in the UK. Would love to see that be done! I noted there was one in the background of The Wizards garage in a few of Hoovies videos. DO IT!!

I remember learning the hard way to look over all the steps in the manuals before you start working on a transmission instead of going step by step. I was working at a Saturn dealership. As a a line tech at Saturn you did everything from a rattle to an oil change to a complete engine or transmission rebuild. I had a L series in that jiffy lube for some reason drained the man trans. They never refilled it. I had to rebuild and I haven't done that man trans yet. It was actually a SAAB 5 SPD. The tech book told you to remove the shifter. That step was at the bottom of the page. I did that and a bunch of metal balls went flying. I turned the page and there it was. WARNING. Before removing the shifter......... LOL

Avalanches have an insane resale value, especially the 2500 because it's the only way your able to get it with a big block. That's a damn good price for that truck even with multiple problems. I sold my 07 avy with 260k Miles, the motor burned excessive amounts of oil, needed a transfer case and cv shafts and had some electrical gremlins for a whopping 5 grand. It even had some rust issues with the frame being it was a northeast truck it's whole life. Crazy what they sell for up here

I'm from the UK here they were called the Sierra and closet model would be a 3 door XR4i, but we also had the Sierra Cosworth too which was and is a very popular car. We got a V6 in ours where you got some 4 pot turbo lump from an old Mustang (hence the added T in the name).

What you said Jarad about making sense doing another 4 runner if not for youtube is good advice for others. Once you get to know a certain model brand or even engine you know the issues costs and pitfalls.

Love the xr4ti. I had one that blew a radiator hose and flash fired. The motor is just a Mustang SVO 4 cylinder and makes the car peppy and a ball to drive. I say go for it 100 percent.

The Merkur was quite a rare bird in the US, but here in the UK, they were the Sierra Cosworth, and though not what could be called common, there was quite a lot of them about in the day. It was because of those (and others in the Ford stable, the Fiesta XR2i and Escort XR3i) that our insurance costs went up because they were expensive cars and easy to steal. The insurance pay-outs for them were huge and often, so the costs went up for everyone to cover those costs, and to kind of put people off buying that sort of car in the first place. All the manufacturers learned from this, and so began the approach of making security more important and part of the design process. Cool story, bruh. They are really rare cars now, as many got destroyed by joyriders etc., so it would be good to see one, even a US equivalent, get some love. It may not be the correct choice, but it is the right one.

That's a German (or British) Ford Sierra XR4i, which in Europe came with a 2.8 litre V6, but that engine was replaced with a turbocharged 2.3 litre I4 when it was sold as the Merkur XR4Ti in North America. Awesome car even without the turbo. 🙂

Go buy the XR4Ti! They’re not hard to work on, and there’s a rabid fan base. There’s a lot of community support for the unique parts, and the engine is shared with the Ford TurboCoupe and the SVO. Would be fun to see a great KZbinr take one on!

The XR4Ti would be a really cool project car, and I for one would follow along, but maybe not for flipping. The engine and transmission were used in the Mustang SVO, but everything else is pretty much unique. You could end up shipping a bunch of parts from Europe, and I’d expect the damaged trim pieces are probably unobtanium now. Head says “nope,” but heart wants to see the Merkur so very much.

The xr4ti would be great, but it is a niche market so the car would have to be done right, which we know you would do. But it may take longer to sell, to get the right money
