3rd Life #6: Heat Of Battle

3rd Life is a Minecraft multiplayer server experiment started by Grian. Players are thrown into a tiny 700x700 world with almost no rules, except survive as long as possible.
1st Life: Player names are green. They are not supposed to initiate battle with anyone, only defend.
2nd Life: Same as 1st Life, except their names are yellow.
3rd Life: Player names are red. They get a new goal of eliminating the remaining players. Dying again means they are out of the game and series.

They spread the TNT way to thin to kill someone with full diamond prot 4. I think he got hit by 4 explosions, but one was obscured by the sand so only 3 explosions we care about. Each causes 29 damage (assuming they all exploded inside of him, which they did not). Each piece of prot 4 armor reduces damage by 16% so he had a 64% flat damage reduction. Armor is way to complicated to get into here but full diamond would reduce each explosion by about 24%. So in the end he took 29x3 x.36 x .76 = 23 half hearts. Which is enough to kill but only barely and remember that that amount of damage is if the TNT is 0 blocks away, and as all of the TNT is both burred and spread out this would never happen. Remember kids, take care of your armor and your armor will take care of you.

It's just a matter of experience, I've had dogs just appear by my side in multiplayer worlds before because someone was pushing them out of the way and the dog fell one block, which triggers the teleport. So with knowing that all it takes for the dog to teleport is for it to fall, and tango telling him that the dog was on fire, it didn't take him long to put the 2 pieces together.

If you break the block beneath a sitting dog or cat, it will teleport to its owner. The dog was sitting on a wool block that caught fire. When it broke, the dog teleported to Tango. This gives me ideas for an early warning system

Keep in mind that 3rd Life is not a team game. Team Crastle now has a lot of drama behind it, with a triple agent (Tango), a traitor (Impulse), and old enemies (Bdubs vs Scar and Grian). If you don't poke them, and they don't have something to stand against, they'll start to divide and crumble. I think this was the last of the large-scale warfare we'll see. For red-life's, it's going to start to become more about picking battles, planning escape routes, and sensible tactics. For yellow-life's, they'll need to have backup gear ready to re-equip, because the economy's effectively collapsed.

@@spookidrew4284 Well, if you go all out, you'll eventually bite off more than you can chew. That's basically what Skizz did, although I'm pretty sure that was more of a suicide run. From a team perspective, sure, all out attack may prove well, especially while your enemies don't have great gear. But, considering that barrage of arrows, this would likely end with at least a casualty. And again, this isn't a team game; I doubt they'd want to take that risk.

Protection IV Diamond Armor + Shield + Golden Apple Teaming with Impulse during the gearing stages really paid off. Even now, I doubt the new Team Crastle will have the treatment Etho got.

Yeah, too late though. At this point, some hard alliances have been formed, blood has been drawn, and negotiations have gone south. The real miracle is that Scar is still alive. I'm starting to think Grian will just stick with Scar to the end just because he feels sorry for him and to keep him alive as long as possible 😅

I think what I would do is build a tower up to build limit, then start heading over towards the Crastle. Set up a frame directly over it, and start placing down Lava Buckets so that the spread completely 100% envelops the building, making it as difficult to escape as possible, since one wrong move will flood the interior with lava. Then, once visibility is completely shot, start dropping TNT or launching it to start filling the building with holes and letting the magma flow in, burning everybody inside and completely destroying the feasibility of ever using that particular building again. Leave the players inside both all down one life, as well as completely homeless without a base to return to.

Brilliant. It would take like 3 minutes for the lava to spread the 150-odd blocks downward. Enough time to regroup for the attack. You could get even more time if you made the platform you spread the lava on out of wool, though that would lead to unpredictable outcomes. Maybe unpredictability is good since new streams could catch someone off-guard. TNT only drops so many blocks in the four seconds it takes for it to blow up, so that wouldn't work.

@@buttercroissant5018 First bit of psychology, most people tend not to look up. If you look at the developer commentary for the original Portal, they had to place an un-climbable broken ladder in a room as a visual cue to get their play-testers to look upwards and solve an otherwise-simple late-game puzzle. Head all the way up to build height, and it should be enough to prevent getting caught. Second, it wouldn't be too hard for the rest of the group to act as a decoy and stage an attack on the Crastle from the opposite direction. Don't forget that the defenders are INSIDE the Crastle, so other than the view from windows, they don't have a good view to the outside, their windows are designed for maximum left-right range. Plus, their roof shapes and decorations inhibit looking up as well. Finally, a group decoy, if they can get close enough, they could get the X-Z coordinates of the Crastle, for further attacks from underground if necessary. Imagine mining directly underneath, getting the necessary Y-Coordinate from somebody standing level with the Crastle, placing a bunch of TNT all over immediately under floor-level, and detonating it all remotely via Redstone. At most, they'd be a bit more likely to get caught from their name being visible, but if done at the same time as the trap from above, it would be the absolute perfect diversion, as well as causing major damage on its own if it actually succeeds.

i was gonna comment a similar idea but you put it way better than i could have, plus the visibility thing is a good point. one possible hiccup is that they could just dig their way out unless the lava was spread super far out around the crastle, but the tnt ideas might help combat that

Slow Falling is actually pretty good offensively too because it makes running much slower, so if you're trying to catch someone a slow-fall arrow slows them down a lot.
