Nice knife collection! As a survivor of Hurricane Florence I can tell you that you are on point with keeping your BOB ready and near you at all times. We evacuated our home by boat due to the Northeast Cape Fear River rising so, fast overnight. I had over 8' of water under our house and 9-9.5' in our yard that stayed flooded for over 14 days. Many of my friends and family completely lost their homes to the flooding. We grabbed my BOB, duffel bags with bear minimal clothing and food. I keep a Mora 2000 and a Columbia Knives Defiant in my BOB. The Defiant is 154cm with a Kydex sheath. I learned a lot from our experience and it has caused me to prepare differently than before. Prepare early (we did), weight is a premium (keep it down), weapon choices (emergency disaster declaration affects that), keep a food bag ready (two weeks supply minimum enough for your family and pets), keep cash on hand (when the power is down machines don't work a lot of businesses still take cash), always have a backup to your backup plan (places to stay and evacuate to in case they are affected to), keep meds and special needs ready (something small can become life-threatening) and traveling with children and pets slows things down (pack for their needs ahead of time). We were cut off from town for over two weeks due to the flooding and I developed a nasty staph infection that only antibiotics would knock out. Don't take small cuts or bites (in my case fire ant bites) for granted. Flood water has many pollution elements that make bacteria thrive. Hopefully my story helps someone prepare. Disasters can have lasting effects both mentally and physically. I still get stressed when I look at all of the abandoned homes due to flooding and some people are still trying to rebuild that didn't have flood insurance.

The Kershaw Camp 10 got carbon steel. 1065 spring steel. I imported the first ones from usa to sweden. And i know a guy with a knife shop so i took it to him for some comparison, and actually i thought it was superior to the Junglas in most ways, but so much cheaper. After a while importers cought up and we saw more of this knife over here. Now more expensive, but still a very good knife. I have 2 now, but since the release i must have bought 5-6 to trade or give away. Tips: i drilled a ~15mm hole under the lowest velcro strap on the sheet, and glued a neodymium magnet to it. Superb sollution to rattling sheet. I also taped the blade up and put some glue with a gun at the opening of the sheet.

I thought long and hard about what knifes to carry in my bag. I came up with these: Never been a Gerber Fan, butt the Gerber Strongarm is excellent! The most important knife (IMOP) is a skinning/game knife, which will keep you going when the stores have been looted . This is the most important asset you will hump, hence the price point. Benchmade Saddle Mountain Skinner w/ hook. KaBar Warthog for self Defense. These are my go to blades!

Re: the CS SRK in san mai iii, i went through 2 of those where the blade edge didn't just chipout it chucked out. The hollow grind made the edge just to fine and when i used like my carbon V or AUS8 versions. Could be my retailer had a poor batch but to me the hollow grind on them is just to thin, so i got 2 SK5 versions of the SRK rather than a 3rd warrenty replacement san mai. Thanks for the video take care God bless. Oh and maybe worth your while looking at the steel will druid line, i have become a fan of them.

As security manager for a chain of bars I people watch and stay interested in the patrons to make my job easier. A lot of situations can be resolved in a way where had they had another minute I'd have to handle it more hands on - not ideal. A few months ago Im scanning the room and see guests leaving and walk toward them saying "Thank you for partying with us. Please drive safely. See you next time." I'm also scanning looking for eye glasses, purses, phones or ...damn! I chase a customer down the side walk and with a loud whistle get his attention. He turns looking a little defensive and protective of his date. I tell him "I think this is yours... (wallet)". Similarly, I liked and subscribed because it's the right thing to do. You earned it like few content providers. We (my collection and I) enjoyed this and your other videos. I like them all. Looking forward to the next with my kukri, Recon Tanto, Gerber Gator machete, throwing knives and various Spyderco and Al Mar knives and Emersons all arranged. Take care buddy!

I found that when i extended the scales on the Armageddon up to the grind lines it gave me more control, and when it was thrusted into something, my fore finger had more support, and did not ram into just the steel. Also Ontario always give you enough materials in the handle so you can shape it to your hand. Since you are a knife maker, i thought you would have done this. Try it. It gives me 3 different positions to hold the knife. I have smaller hands and shaping the handle has made such a difference. I used chainsaw file, and pieces of tubing with sand paper held with just elastic bands. Roll the paper on a few times for this to work well. I even shaped the front of the scales flatter so my thumb can roll around the end. And it now looks wicked!

To skin game with a large knif, add a lanyard. Place the lanyard at the elbow. It will be better if you can adjust the lanyard for tightness at the elbow. This will take the weight of the knife. Then just pinch the knife at the tip.

Being realistic since that is important, what kind of game are 6oh people hunting to where you have to skin it in order to process the meat? I'm and avid hunter and let me tell you there is plenty of game you can kill where you don't have to skin it. Even whitetail, I wouldn't recommend it but if your in a bug out situation then I don't your gonna care if its perfectly skinned or not lol

Awesome upload. Love some of these blades. Where you are lucky is you can create your own hard use knife. In one of your other videos you show one you created that looks a bit like a Becker BK2. I have created a few for myself. I forget and hammer out designs every once and awhile. A couple of creations I did give away. I do not sell knives. But I most certainly can create them if need be. There is another channel here on KZbin that is actually really good at making knives. He actually has some of the most basic of equipment I have ever seen. His user name is Slavic something or other ? Do not remember his full name. He has a Milwaukee portable corded mounted to his wall. He cuts the blanks out with that saw. The rest is grinding and heat treating . He usually adds micarta scales he molds to the blade he has created. Makes Kydex sheaths . He does so much with what little tools he has. It is rather impressive. See my shop is loaded with tooling, lathe ,mill , plasma cutter, forge and anvil.

Great video, and I particularly appreciate the part about philosophy of use. You differentiated between a "survival" knife and a "bugout" knife, but did not elaborate on those differences. What would you say are the differences between each?
@arctodussimus6198
@arctodussimus6198 3 жыл бұрын
As for me, a bug-out knife will be used in conjunction with other gear that is with you when you bug out. A survival knife is the knife you use when you have no other gear except the contents of your pockets.

So a bug out knife is the ultimate survival knife. I have a big knife strapped to my black pack replacing my Cold Steel Recon Tanto. Both knives are black with black kydex sheaths with the recon tanto made with black kraton rubber handle. Black on black back pack tend to blend in and not too visible. Don't try to blend in a black kydex on a tan or coyote or green back pack nut black or black hides in plain sight. You really need a 6-8 inch blade to really have an effective killing knife to drive in and stab through vital organs from front to rear. I have the Tops Steel Eagle 107C. It is a large knife. It can hack, chop, hack, notch with thr saw back, a very good outdoor knife. Aside from being noisy, velcro security straps wear out. Use it a year and the velcro won't hook and hold anymore. A pull the dot snap button is quiet and will last a lot longer than velcro.

Very nice video and really like your Mark 1 scout design. Solid advice to work with the knife and test it, get to know it. I don't make the distinction between survival vs bushcraft vs bug out and what more. When it comes to budget knives you can have everywhere in the house, car, boat, bags I prefer the Hultafors GK. Very strong knife and would not mind it as only knife in every condition and environment.

What tasks can you not perform with a Mora knife? I'musing a Mora every single trip, and even though I never need to baton, batoning is not a problem. If you're chopping, bring a saw instead of a knife. Actaully, if I could only choose one it would be a saw.

Idk about what you said when you said you need a knife that can be batoned if need be. While I do agree with that kind of nd you do need a strong knife no matter who you are or where you live but i disagree in thw sense of it depends on where you live. I live in Pennsylvania in the Appalachian mountain chain on the mason Dixon line and I can tell you first hand even camping I have never had to worry about processing any wood for fire or shelter. Reason being is that where i live there is so Damn much dead wood and sticks laying around everywhere that you really don't have to process any or chop it up to make it smaller. Now it could be useful in shelter building bc you probably don't want to use dead dry wood for a shelter near a fire but you deff could if you had to. But yeah in the north east the forests are so old that you can't walk more than 10 feet without seeing enough dead wood to make 20 fires lol

Good Choices. But I think if you're going to be out there long enough to have to hunt, I'd just toss in a small Skinner in addition to your Main Blade. Or if you're in a place where you can RELIABLY catch Fish, then put in a Filet Knife instead. And I still think a Mora for Light Camp Chores wouldn't hurt.

My two cents here. A bug out knife will be stashed in your bug out bag near the safest exit of your place, or in the trunk of your car, etc. You won't use it. It will be stored. So I don't think a lot of people can truly cough $200 on a knife that they won't use. Graigslist. Buck 119 (very common) or Gerber LMF2 (very common), etc. +-$25.

My point is just that most people won't have a $250 BR Bravo 2 knife stashed in a bag in the trunk of their car on in the coat closet that they won't use. And if they use it then its not a bug out knife anymore. My secondary point is that there are some widely available knives sold in most hunting shops that ends on Graigslist for $25 or less that could be concidered. Since you won't use that knife. The Gerber LMF II is a good knife. The Strongarm is a good knife as well so as the Buck 119, etc.

But you are right to advocate for quality for the primary surviving tool. If someone would plan in advance and buy a dedicated bug out knife that they truly won't use the Ontario Knives RAT line is probably the best (or among the best) affordable options. Your collection is impressive, by the way.

Plutot Crever You assume “most people” won’t have? Are you most ppl? I make videos to educate and inspire. Don’t assume your speaking for everyone else or they follow your demographic. I’m not doubting your opinion or your experience. My 2 cents worth is if I’m leaving my home for an extended amount of time I will pack the kit that will best enable to survive not some cheap China made Blade that will break or blunt when I need it most. But hey what do I know, I’ve only made several videos on the subject. Please make your own video on the subject, I’m sure you get plenty of comments. Thanks.

Say Heah, 3 River, Yeah, Right now I just ordered a Busse Combat Flak Jack. But I also marked you to investigate. So after I re-coup, I will investigate. But this Bug-out Knives means a Large Knife, a Chopper teamed with a Smaller Knife. Just to give you an idea. I teamed my Busse Combat Nuclear Meltdown Fussion Steel Heart with one of my (2) INFIMandu or one of my Fav's less expensive O. K. C. Gen2 SP-53 teamed with my Ranger T. F. I. (Tactical Force Infidel) Yeah their TactiKewl, but I use this combo in the bush. My other INFIMandu, I teamed it with my Busse Combat Anneversary Straight Handle Battle Mistress LE. These are just a couple of examples. I have other Combo's. I especially like my Bark River, I pick and choice from a 4Knife Set, a Woodland Special, Bravo 1, Bravo 2, Golok, all in A2 with Ghost Green Jade G-10 Handles. But one of my ALL Time Fav's. Is my Rodent 7 with my Rodent 3 in a Piggyback and I Baldric Carry them. I use them in colder weather solo overnighter. Yeah, I love my Khukuris, I have a smaller and larger M-43 Traditional Khukuris. I also love my Cold Steel Kukuri Plus in O1 that I teamed with my C. S. San Mai 3 Master Hunter. But even though my Fox Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife isnt that large of a chopper, I still permimently attached my Mira Kansbol to the sheath for a pretty good set-up. So yeah, I love large knives. Infact with a large knife I tie a long lanyard to it, tie it around my bisep and hold the tip to do my finer tasks. The lanyard supports the weight.,,. p

The only thing I disagree with is the wd40. I would take something food safe like mineral oil that you could also store in a lighter, more reliable container.

Love your vids but give the cost. That is a big factor when you you can only buy a couple for your family.

1st if the shit hit the fan move away quick from big cities, with the time in extreme emergency it will be a mouse trap depending of water and food availability, country side, forest will be your best survival option if you're well prepared, move away from dense cities population, they will fall first into madness. 2nd carry light and smart. 3rd long blade like the swamp rat seeing here, or bk9 style, its 1095 cro van btw, and some heavy field/survival training. A good blade is needed and very important, but knowledge is vital.

Thing is, if you baton with your knife and it breaks, you are well and truly buggered! Any knife can break. They are not designed to have that kind of impact stress put on them. Thats why the axe was invented! Use your knife for what it was made for. Cutting. Everything Cold Steel does in their advertising videos, even they say it is gross abuse. But if used correctly it will last a life time and more. All the antique knives you see were never subjected to abuse. The ones that were do not exist! The whole point of survival is to use when no other option. But anyone with sense would gather firewood, not baton logs. That is pointless. You don't do this to process wood for your homes fires. Use a axe!

First, great video. The esee 6 has a 3/16" thick blade though and you kind of hit it right in with the laser strike as it was originally designed by tops.
