Can't say I fully agree. Many people listen to songs because of how it sounds, whether it's because it reminds them of something, makes them feel a certain way, etc. You see many people listen to music that they literally can't understand unless they look up lyrics for it. And there's nothing wrong with that. You're not a "slave to the industry" for doing so, you just have a different way of liking music than someone else.
