He was lecturing them on behalf of the public. He was in a rare position to chastise them for their elitist attitude and he took it. Which was very satisfying to watch by the way. Especially when you consider they were all dressed up to pat themselves on the back. I would even argue that he the only one who could have pulled that off. It had to be one of their own to be invited to host, but not care what they thought of his insults. That was a once in a lifetime speech that took them down a notch. At least for a few moments.
